Default The Legend Of Hell House - March 23rd (Ger)

Fantastic news. One of the very best haunted house movies ever made makes what I believe is its world debut on on the 23rd of March.
Clive Reville leads a team of psychic investigators taking on 'The Mount Everest' of haunted houses - Hell House. Pamela Franklin also stars a a vulnerable psychic, as does Roddy McDowall who plays the sole survivor of the previous team that tried to investigate Hell House....
Genuinely scary and boasting a superb score John Hough's film is now officially one of my must have s for 2012.

Koch Entertainment putting out the worst BDs in the world. Worse than Echo Bridge.

If the end result is like Scanners yes. However, initial reaction to the recent Koyaanisqatsi seems quite positive, if not spectacular. Better apparently with Powaqqatsi though. Lets see what the reaction is to Hell House when it streets (or just before)....

Watched this tonight. Basically while it is not quite up to the standard of Legend of the Lost - the other Koch Media that accompanied it on its journey from Germany to sunny Kent, it is considerably better than Koch's abominations such as Scanners and The Quiet Earth.
Fox have obviously supplied Koch Media with an old DVD master for this BD and EE is present on most of the outside scenes. Grain at times is blizzard like and at other times is very minimal indeed, although always present.
Some of the film was shot in soft focus (typical 1970s) and this does not achieve the usual sharpness that you would associate with Hi Def. However, where you do not have soft focus shots, then clarity, detail, and depth are all good. Black levels are not great but are not poor either and shadow detail is fine. Colour and Contrast are both respectable too. The print source has damage which has not been addressed by the restoration but is otherwise fairly clean of dust, dirt etc.
All in all it just gets to a 3/5 for PQ.

AQ is a steady (if unspectacular) 2 channel DTS-HD Master track which gives a nice clear dialogue. SFX are presented fairly well by the track but LFE seems a little on the low side. Additionally, I found the score to be somewhat subdued though and it did not seem to have the same punchiness as enjoyed by the DVD....
It does the job basically - 2.5/5.

Yes it is better than the DVD but somewhere out there there is a better restoration of The legend of Hell House waiting for its hi def debut. Just don't hold your breath though....
Region B locked.
