Default Dune (David Lynch), German vs French import

Sorry if that was mentioned somewhere here at forums, but i didnt found anything.
Im wondering which Blu-ray version of Dune is better quality wise - German or French. I love this movie and i cant really wait for US version (im living in uk anyway). If someone knows, or better, seen both versions i would be very grateful for comparasion (if there is any difference).

I haven't seen the German version--but I was thoroughly impressed with the French release (http://fr.blu-ray.com/movies/DUNE-Blu-ray/2095/). It also has the same extras as the previous 3-disc Ultimate Èdition carried over; with the exception of the dreaded Alan Smithee "cut-for-TV-by-total-nincompoops" version.

Once the U.S. version is released won't it be equivalent to the French version? It will carry lossless audio and that was only thing really missing from the HD DVD anyway.

No. Not only was a different master used but different studio = different encoding.

You're telling me that the French version looks better than the Univeral distributed U.S. version?

They are different. I wouldn't call one "better" than the other. The American HD DVD is a little dark and has a small amount of speckles on the film elements, but has more accurate colors. The French Blu-ray is brighter (perhaps a little too bright) and cleaner, but has some oversaturated colors.

Overall, they come out about even. Both are very good.

I keep forgetting to order the German disc. I should get on that.
