Default Screencaps

These are some screencaps from the UK release, showing some of the good stuff rather than bad, though one of them is the shot that contains some extraneous hair (?) (2nd last) that was also mentioned in the Blu-ray.com's review of the U.S. release. That doesn't stay on the screen for long.

well the dvdbeaver review is up, and he gives the definite nod to the BU release, though both are apparently based on the same master.
as someone else noted, the BU has received the better encode, and ends up trumping this Arrow release in a number of small ways.
the extras, while having some apparent overlap, also have some exclusive stuff to each version apparently.
kind of a shame that the Arrow release isn't quite as good.
I want to like Arrow, and I do, but it seems they just need to ramp up their game just a little more, and they might be really good.
still too inconsistent imo.
If I was a region B only person, I wouldn't be happy reading that the same films are apparently getting superior releases in region A.

I think the Arrow release has much better artwork & extras (thou I personally don't care about extras).
But have I really understood right that the Arrow release doesn't have any subtitles?
When everybodys sleeping subtitles are very helpful, and for them I might spend a few dollars more on the littlebit more expensive BU release (ofcourse PQ is most important for me, but in this case the difference seems minor).

Personally I would take the dvdbeaver commentary with a large pinch of salt on this one. I have found some of their reviews to be shall we say somewhat questionable in the past e.g. Gladiator, Near Dark to name but a few...

It's true that the Arrow release doesn't have any subs for the main feature. The back of the case says "Subtitles: English (Extra features only)". However, the English-dubbed dialogue on this movie is very clear and easily audible so I wasn't personally missing subs at all. I also watch movies mostly at night when my wife and son are sleeping and I usually like to use subs just to make sure I can catch all the dialogue with moderate audio volume, but with this movie there was no problem.

Oh.. thats happen all the time... If you compare the newer US Fight Club BD release with the release from Germany, you will understand, that the little differs between the "City of the living Dead" releases are not that hard to take.
The only thing I miss a bit are the subs.. but it really could be worse.

I am lucky, that I am not that region B only. My PS3 may be a german one with region lock, but european PS3s play NTSC stuff, if its not region coded, and if its region coded, I have a PC with a BD-Rom Drive, and could rip the BD as an ISO to my Networked Media Tank to watch it on my TV.

yeah no matter where I lived in the world I would be region free for bd.
just too many great locked releases on both sides of the Atlantic.
it's essential imo.

Finaly the caps-a-holic Image comparison between US and UK BD is online.

I think the US is somebit superior in quality and grain, but lose a bit in dark scenes. All over both BDs have their pros and cons.

Based on the screen caps alone I'd give the edge to the BU release as far as PQ goes.
