Default Any blueray Player under 499 - Yet?

I am essential looking for a decent blue ray for about 350-400, The cheapest I have seen is 499.00? I bought my HD-A2 for 299.00, why is blue ray so much more?

The BDP-S300 lists for 499 but I am sure it can be had for less if you look around or wait a month.

I dont think its better, SONY has a better handle and finger on the market, with more movie support such as:
Sony Pictures (including MGM/Columbia TriStar), Disney (including Touchstone, Miramax), Fox, Paramount, Warner, Lions Gate

Where as HD:
Paramount, Studio Canal, Universal, Warner, the Weinstein Company

Sony-Blue ray has more titles , which is generating in more sales, especially with the PS3.

I think Quality Vs Quality Picture is the same. The disc content is more favorable on Sony:
25GB (single layer)
50GB (dual layer)
100GB (prototype quad layer)

HD:
15GB (single layer)
30GB (dual layer)
45GB (prototype triple layer)

i think i answered my own question, but players are so $$. You have to be rich to buy one. >

They are more logical because of movie releases and support and PS3 access. That is all, not better but more favorable. HD-DVD stands its own ground.

Careful now, it seems you are going to start trodding over Blu-Ray. If you are, then this belongs in the smackdown area of the forum.

Mostly Blu-Ray supporters here.

You can find a new Samsung BD-P1000 for under $465 at Amazon.com. You are also comparing list price with selling price at the retailers. List price is usually higher. Blu-ray can not be subsidized in the same way as the Toshiba only HD-DVD players. The CE-companies will not make the same money on royalties as Toshiba. Some of the CE-companies like Philips, Panasonic and Sony all get some royalty fees from Blu-ray but not as much as Toshiba from HD-DVD.

I think the best bang for your buck right now is the new Panasonic for $599 (not sure on web prices) that includes 5 free movies. From what I hear it's a very solid machine, the only thing I dislike about it is the lack of an ethernet connection. I have not heard much yet about the new $499 Sony but I'd take the Panasonic with the free movies (packed inside the box) anyday over the new Sony after seeing them both in person.

Why is he/she wasting your time? They clearly stated they are looking for a cheap Blu-ray player to go along with their HD-A2. That just means they want to be format neutral. So do I. Just because if you look at my sig I'm clearly a HD DVD supporter doesn't mean I don't want to get into Blu-ray either. Honestly it's snide comments like that from some people that really turns me off from posting at forums like these.
