Can anyone tell me what specific advantages that this version has over the previous versions of Blu Ray ?

Thanks - sorry if this is a stupid question.

Improved interactivity (BD-J) and increased security (BD+) is my understanding.

Profile 2, also known as BD-Live, adds network connectivity to the list of mandatory functions and increases mandatory local storage capability to 1 GB. No players have been announced as compatible with this profile.

However the PS3 is very likely to be upgraded to comply with it.

I would say the PS3 is already there with either 20GB or 60GB or storage and network interface.

Now if the CE's would get their asses in gear and get the stand alone players in compliance they might have more people buy them.

So nothing really significant then.

Actually with the newer BD-J, once it is released, new BD movies will be released with that on their movies and will require to play their features.

But the important part "The Movie" will still play.

Nope it wont play..first it will send a virus to your tv that will make it explode into little bits then melt ur disc inside your player and cause an atomic explosion inside your house leaving nothing but a pretty mushroom glad for everyone to see in a distance

No such thing as Blu-ray V2.0 exists.

We have Profile 1.0 (current and under grace period), Profile 1.1 (still Profile 1 but with some features mandatory after grace period which ends Oct. 31) and Blu-ray Profile 2 which is BD-Live (1 GB storage and network).

BD+ has nothing to do with the profiles. All players are compatible with BD+ but it has not been finalized. It is under testing right now.

BD-J is something that exists in all players today. Has nothing to do with profiles either except some features made mandatory in Profile 1.1, like PiP, could use BD-J to make IME more entertaining.
