Default Ok, something is definitely wrong with Blu-ray playback on my PS3

All of the movies I've watched have look extremely fuzzy and grainy except Casino Royale. I just put The Punisher on, which has a 4 1/2 star video quality rating here on HDD, and it looked absolutley horrible!! Worse than DVD.... my TV does 720p/1080i, but all the Blu-ray movies look very much like standard DVD quality. I also have my Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on on the same TV, and it looks excellent. Actual PS3 games look fine too, but the Blu-ray playback is unacceptabley bad. What's going on? So far the movies I've watched are...

Casino Royale (Looked fined, like a HD movie should)
The Punisher (Very bad, worse than DVD quality)
Silent Hill (strange grain, worse than the standard DVD)
The Holiday (Very soft, fuzzy, and blurry)
xXx (Slightly better than DVD quality)
Memento (Slightly better than DVD quality)
Layer Cake (Slight better than DVD quality)

Could something be set wrong, or is this how it's supposed to look? I can't believe this is right though, unless that review was massively over-rated. I'm thinking about taking my PS3 back because it's mainly for Blu-ray movies, but I'm not having the best expierence thus far.

Most of those are very early discs that aren't thought to have great PQ. Silent Hill looked pretty weird in darker scenes, but the high contrast shots looked great. The only other one I've watched in your list was Layer Cake, which looked fantastic to me. I replaced my DVD copy and I absolutely loved it.

Well, I figured out the problem, it was just the movie. I bought both Pirates today on Blu-ray, and rented Crank, and they looked phenominal, totally stunning. I wasn't satisfied with the level of quality on those titles(Punisher was very poor). I wish every movie had the quality of a Casino Royale, Pirates, Crank, ect. Not to rag on this site or anything, because I love it, but it's kind of scary/odd that The Punisher got such a high video quality rating because it's truly a horrible transfer.

I guess I just feel that for the $600-$1,000 we're spending on the players, and the $20-$40 on movies, every release should be an obvious improvment over the DVD version. Hopefully now that it's been sometime since these formats have been out we'll see more and more quality releases, and less lazy transfers. Thanks for the help.
