Default Sony's BDP-S1 has landed, finally!

Well it looks like the Sony BDP-S1 is here judging by some comments from the AVS Forum.

From engadget:

"After just a few delays (cough, cough) it appears that Sony's first Blu-ray player -- the BDP-S1 -- has finally landed, and a few days early to boot. At last word the player was expected on or about Dec 4th 2006, but a few lucky Blu-ray fans picked one up from Best Buy today; no word on pre-orders from the Sony Style store as of yet. The early results are good and some have already started to enjoying that [email protected] that we have all been waiting for. Sure 3:2 pulldown works great, but there is nothing like a native frame rate to bring out the best in film. Early indications seem to point to a lack of Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD decoding, but you can still enjoy uncompressed audio tracks via discrete analog cables or HDMI. As cool looking as this player is, a PS3 at Ebay prices may still be a better deal than a stand alone Blu-ray player."

Don't like the look of it though!

AV components shouldn't be blue....but blue lights are spiffy.

When all of the BD players were due to be released within a few weeks of each other, I had already ruled the Sony out simply because that blue panel is just so ugly.

Tell me about it - it just looks plain odd! I have no idea what the designers were thinking!

According to a Sony rep, the player does indeed have the latest HD decoders & all that will be necessary to get Dolby TrueHD & dts-HD MLA is a future software update.

The blue glass front pannel doesn't really bother me.

Oh, and that is not what Toshiba did with the A1, or MS did with the 360. Geeze, the Sony bashing is so in vogue, huh?

They PLANNED to give you additional features, yet typical of the web, you just complain. So typical troll.

Unfortunately, with the advent of the internet (and broadband in particular) I think we will see more and more firmware fixes rather than less.

Smile Sony BDP-S1 at Best Buy Now

Picked up the Sony BDP-S1 at Best Buy today and added it to my HDTV setup. Unit lis terrific! It comes with a BD-DVD of The Fifth Element Luckily I picked up a few other Blu-rays to play. Am very pleased with it thus far. It doesn't come ith an HDMI cable so am using Component Video cables to hook it to my 1080i plasma. Glad to see the units finally shipping.
