Default BD30-Dolby TrueHD audio drop firmware

This is information that I have been able to post on an other forum and wanted to update that information here.

There is a firmware coming that fixes the audio drops for Dolby TrueHD. I can not provide a concrete release date as I don't have one. However the work has been done and a firmware is coming that addresses the matter. There will be additional matters addressed as well.

If I am able to provide a release date I will. Over the next few weeks if I can not I at least encourage you to check Panasonic's web site for a new firmware.

Jim

There is no other way to do Dolby TrueHD for the BD30.

I'm guessing firmware 1.8 does not address this issue?

Wait --

Are you telling me that the BD30 STILL doesn't bitstream TrueHD? Does it even INTERNALLY DECODE it? My '10A even does this...

No, he is saying the BD30 will not decode TrueHD (or DTS-HD-MA) internally. You have to bitstream the lossless codecs to an HDMI 1.3 receiver that has internal decoding of those advanced lossless codecs. And there have been many issues with these players having audio drops for TrueHD via bitstreaming. So I am sure many people will welcome the fix

Oh, okay...got worried there for a minute...

Well, the dropouts and such I figured on...another "new venture" into a new method for these machines so of course there's gonna be bugs...perhaps waiting for a next generation player would make sense at this point after all.

JS... Great news! Hopefully our patience with this player and Panasonic will pay off. You don't know how many times I started eyeing other players, thinking the issue would never be resolved.

I looked at the Panny site today and 2.2 is now posted. Wonder what happened to 1.9-2.1. As usual, it is described only as offering "playability and stability" upgrades.
