Default Looking to get a cheap BR player

Hey guys I don't know much about Blu Ray players but I have heard that some of the older models can't support or won't fully support some discs in the future. I know the Samsung 1200 model is giving people problems but if it is under one hundred dollars at Sears I may try and pick it up. Otherwise, what is a good player under or around 300 dollars? I can get a PS3 for 300 so how is the quality on that? Thanks in advance.

The PS3 is the most reliable player available in my opinion, plus it is a game system and a great media player. Definitely get that over the 1200, I wouldn't get the 1200 for more than $60

How is the PS3 picture-quality-wise compared to say the S300?

The PQ on the PS3 is top notch, and the same
quality if not better than the S300 for picture. the PS3 is the best you can get right now in my opinion. It lacks certain audio specs of certain players but not such a big deal. The value is great for the PS3.

Lack of audio codecs is "not such a big deal" for some, and a huge deal for others. If you're the type of person who hits "play movie" when the disc menu comes up, then you'd probably be fine with a PS3. If, on the other hand, you go straight to "languages" when your disc menu comes up before you play the movie, then maybe the PS3 isn't going to be the best player for you.

"Cheap" blu-ray is pretty much impossible right now, though I managed to get a Panasonic BD30 for $99 - of course that was a bundled special with a $3000 58" plasma tv, but I think it qualifies as cheap! There have been some decent deals on the Samsung 1400, which can bitstream all of the new audio codecs. However, when I say decent deals, I mean that I've found it for as low as $260 due to 10% off for in-store pickup at circuitcity.com. As for the 1200 - it gets so much bad press on this board that I'd steer clear. Good luck!
