Default For a PS3 is the 80gig the best choice?

I bought the PS3 80 gig version because I was told it is the best of the units....and that they were no longer being made. Is the 80gig machine worth the extra hundred bucks or should I have just gone with the 40gig?

40 Gb is a little quieter I have been told - and is likely the better way to go if you only intend to watch movies on it and use it as a web browser and media server.

80 Gb if you want the media card ports, are open to playing any games... plus it holds more media if you don't want to replace the hard drive yourself.

games... well if you want to discuss that part of it there are plenty of websites that do that.... I bought the 60 Gb - and have tried some PS2 games, but could not be bothered - I like HiDef toooo much.

Between those two, the 80 gig is definately the correct choice. The 60 gig would have been a better choice if you want to play PS2 games...the newer machines have compatibility issues with PS2. For Blu-Ray, it will not matter, both will look the same.

I'm really happy with the PS3. I really would like the Panasonic BD50, but I just know it's going to be expensive when it comes out.

The PS3 does more for your money, and that is why I bought it.

Now I have a question. The PS3 plays so many video and audio formats. What I didn't see mentioned though is DVD-Audio. Can the PS3 play this format? If not, why? Seems like something that would have been easy to add for Sony. They added SACD for chrissakes.

It would be like them adding HD-DVD to the PS3. They are not going to put a competitor's tech in their machine.

I just bought the 40GB PS3 and I have had the 60GB. The difference between fan noise is night and day. I don't need backwards capability so I chose the 40GB.

I got a 40. I'm no hardcore gamer and don 't need backwards compatibility.

If PS2 games and SACD are important to you...get the 80GB. Otherwise, save your money and get the 40GB.

Not being a fanboy here...but also consider that the ARE alot of games starting to come the way of PS3.
