Question APPLE - When do we get BD drives?

Does anyone have any insight or information on when (as it is inevitable) Apple is going to start putting BD optical drives in their Macs? (Or might they even do dual-format support?!?)

Any info helps.

When they have a reason to. I'm thinking they are going to be announcing a new version of DVD Studio Pro with Blu-ray authoring @ NAB in April.

Apple isn't going to NAB this year.

I find it amazing that Apple didn't incorporate BD drives in the latest Mac Pro update.

Surely the Mac Pro would be the first to get such a drive. But with the length of time it looks like we're going to have to wait between Mac Pro updates, we may not see BD for quite a while.

A couple of points...
Just because Apple is not officially attending NAB this year, that doesn't mean they might not release something aroud that time.(wishful thinking)

The current version of OS X does support BD drives. The only thing left is for the OS to have the codecs, and DVD player to be patched.

With the possibility of Toshiba dropping HD-DVD, I can't see Apple waiting much longer. It does kind of make sense for them to have waited for the smoke to clear from the format war, though.

I would venture that we'll see BD support either around NAB or just after, around September-ish. Apple's big Christmas toys come out around then.(iPod updates, new iMacs). I would see Apple dropping a BD disc into an iMac first, then the rest of the line-up.

Man, I was about ready to purchase a macbook since I've been told my a SUPER apple fanboy that they won't add one in the foresable future. I sorta want to wait but if the Fall-ish timetable that is going around I'm just gonna get one now.

The chances of Apple incorporating a Blu-ray drive into a notebook anytime soon are next to none.

Apple, for all of its foresight and innovations, is probably the slowest of any company when it comes to adopting and deploying new optical drive technologies. (Yes, yes, I know Apple was one of the first to ship a machine with a DVD burner. But 7 years later they're still shipping the lowest end MacBook with a Combo Drive.)

I love my MacBook, BTW. Get one.

huh? thought they were the first to offer DVD-R burners? 2001 according to Wiki

I know they were like the last to adopt DVD+R

I didn't start following Apple until late '04 so I could be wrong but I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Apple are not fast to incorporate cutting-edge tech into their consumer Macs (of which the MB is one). Just buy one, the MBP would get a BD player 6 months before a MB would.
