Default Choices for BD Player

I have been looking around for a BD player, not really interested in the PS3 since I have an XBOX360 to play games and I wouldn't use either for playing movies. So Samsung, while I can get those under $300 I really am not impressed with, I can get a refurb sony BDP-S300 for $249. I also have found a few Pan BD10 players for about $320. I really don't care about PIP or some of the interactive stuff, we normally just watch the movie. I want something that will play profile 2.0 movies, but also want it to be internet capable which does not exist right now and could live without it if I have to. Any one have any other choices or can vouch for the Sony 300 model? or should I just wait the few months for the new profile 2.0 models? Whatever model it is it must support HDMI connections.

PS3 for movies is out of the question.

just out of curiousity why you feel this way? I get the impression you look at the ps3 as a gaming machine solely correct?

Well more than anything personal preference, however yes the PS3 is a gaming console with DB player. I have a gaming console, I like it and just don't want two of them around. I want a standalone BD player.

bd-30 is the only logical choice currently for a bd sa imo.
I would say wait for the bd-50 at this point since it is not too far from coming out.
It should be the total package.
btw: expect to pay more if you really want an adequate SA.
You cannot get what you want for such low prices.
Think $499.

I just checked out the BD-50 think I'll wait and see about that. Seems to be what I'm looking for.

Ummm I suspect in the next week or two the PS3 pricepoint will drop to $300. That's why we've heard the Wal-Mart news. Will that be enough to sway you regardless of the fact it's a game console.

man i hope so. i was an early HD-DVD adopter and now am happily ready to jump into Blu-Ray, just trying to figure out the best player for me.

I don't really care about internet interactivity, or "extras" for the most part. I really just want a good player to watch badass high-def movies on, and I'd rather not break the bank in doing so. Sounds like the PS3 is probably all I need,. right?

And damn, if it does drop to $300, this is a done deal.

As I have said, I have an XBOX 360 and that is all I need, I really don't need another game console to just watch DVD's. I need a standalone that fits into what I have setup. The PS3 really does nothing for me, If i'm going to spend the $300 then I might as well pick up a cheap Player. From what I have read and seen on the Panasonic DB50, I'd rather just wait for that and spend the money.
