Default Samsung BD-1400 or Sharp BD HD20U?

If I had to choose between these 2 players which should I choose? At one store I saw both on sale for $350 in a new box. I saw the Samsung has complete codec support of DD+, TrueHD, and DTS-HD HR and streaming for DTS-HD MA.

The Sharp has only Decoding of DD+ and TrueHD. However, I have not heard any bad news about Sharp.

I've seen on this forum and others that Samsung, especially the BD-1200's, have issues, and definitely need firmware updates.

In my personal experience the only serious issue I have with my BD p1400 is something that would tend to more point towards my player being defective rather than the series being bad. My picture dropout issue (posted in another thread). Besides my player possibly being defective, I have no major complaints so far, but I only own 20 movies and I've rented 1 that I don't own. So there's a good possibility that I simply don't own whatever discs people are having issues with. I will say that with BD-J heavy titles (all resident evil's, Pirates 2 & 3) you can expect long load times. I'll post my cataloge below as a reference for discs I've personally tested on the unit and not had an issue with in the event any listed titles are ones the previously had issues but would have apparently been fixed.

Fifth Element
Stargate
Total Recall
Resident Evil (1, 2 & 3)
Ghost Rider
Fantastic 4 (1 & 2)
Underworld (1 & 2)
Casino Royale
300
The Prestige
Kingdom of heaven
Pirates (2 & 3)
Troy
Big Fish
The Simpsons Movie
And I rented out Ice Age Melt down and didn't have any issues other than picture dropout which again, would more point to a defective unit.

I have the 1400 and I haven't had a problem with it. I have between 35 and 40 bluray movies and I haven't had a problem with those either. I'd lean towards the 1400.

I agree with crazzeto about the load time of some titles. There are a few I have that take a few minutes to load.

Yes, it functions for firmware updates only.

I own the 1400 and have not had a single issue with it. Upconversion is stellar as well. It is a great player, IMO much better than the Sharp.

Aside from a bazaar issue with my first 1400(Unit would only function if it was being held at a slight angle, otherwise it would slowly power down........)I am overall pretty pleased. In comparison to the Sharp it is the better unit simply because of the codec support people have mentioned already. The Sharp really is a decent player but if you're looking for ways to differentiate I think that the codec support is reason enough to go with something else.
