Default Samsung BD-UP5000 & LG BH200 Comparison

I am looking for a Blu-Ray/HD DVD standalone set top player. I've come across both the Samsung BD-UP5000 & LG BH200 and wanted to see if there were any significant differences between them?

I've heard that the Samsung has the capability of HQV while the LG does not.

Would value open opinions on the two to make a valued decision before purchasing.

I am in the market to buy a combo player as well. I will probably buy the Samsung. It'll be my 3rd BD player and my 2nd HD-DVD player. The HQV chip is the top selling point for me. I've been reading some negative reviews of this Samsung combo player, but some have been really positive. Not sure who to believe. I have had playback issues with all my HD stand alone players, so I expect the same here. I guess it's just part of the HD development process, even though it's annoying. My advice...buy the Samsung.

"t y suck... " What the hell does that mean?

-------------------------------------------

I have a 5000 and love it. It has NOT been problem-free, but neither was my HD-XA1 or -XA2 or Sony 301 BD player. I've done one firmware upgrade (painlessly); it still won't play 'Sunshine' (BD) or send Dolby TrueHD soundtracks out the 6-channel-analog outputs. I understand there are some hi-rez digital formats that it won't send out the digital output; SEARCH these forums for more info.

However, it allows me to play all (but 2) of my 140-or-so hi-def discs, and I love its GREAT-looking and -sounding output.

japrx7 - (Go Wankel!)

I suggest you test both with the HQV Benchmark DVD. This is exactly why we developed this DVD, to enable users to test the quality level of competing units for themselves. I have heard from users who have done this test that the BH200 has problems with detail, NR, and slow cadence lock, but you should verify for yourself. Good Luck!

Glad to hear that you love your 5000. You helped me make up my mind to definitely purchase it. I have had the same experience as you with all my stand alone players. Playback issues, freezing, firmware upgrades. i guess it's part of the package as an early adopter. By now, I don't feel that "early" anymore.
