Default Samsung BDP-1200 or PS3?

Looking to pick up a BD player and came across a deal for the Sammy BDP-1200 for $180. I've read threads on how horrible the 1200 is but also read some good. Should I just get a PS3?

Always go for the PS3.

I have a 1200 and if I could do it over again I'd get a PS3 or something else. There are things I love about the 1200 don't get me wrong but Samsung is very slow with updates. The 1200 is a little better with the update last week but there are still quite a few Blu-Ray disc problems as well as DVD problems.

Stay away from Samsung. I had the 1200, and it wasn't worth the problems.

Samsungs support for the 1200 is lacking to put it nicely! Seems like you need the latest firmware for the newest releases from Fox, Disney, and any 1.1 movies. My 1200 still plays most of my 80+ bds with no problems. Dont have any sd dvd playback issues either but I have not played a sd dvd in this player for some time. The PS3 is a great buy and value. Very reliable and has never failed playing what bd I throw at it. But the 1200 for $180?? Like I said, the player plays bds and sd dvds great. Only problem, imho, is the support/firmware avaibility. Be hard for me to pass that price up...but I would defintely get a PS3. I guess my only question for me would be do I get the 1200 cheap NOW and get the PS3 later or do I get the PS3 now and buy a more expensive, but more reliable, sa player later? I would probably go with the latter.

I can't believe this question was even asked on this forum. The PS3 wins hands down. While the upconversion is not quite as good as the 1200, it still does an excellent job at it. Pair that with all Blu-Ray titles actually working after they are released and it seems to be a no brainer to me.

Don't fall into the Samsung trap like many of us did!

I would never buy the 1200, it has been the last of the sammy players to get updated consistently. and it is usually a week or so behind. the player still will not work with 3:10 to yuma, though the 1000 and 1400 do.

go ps3 or wait for profile 2.0 payers to be released..

Default I have a 1200 and a PS3.

I have a 1200 and a PS3. I love them both but it's the PS3 that gets to go in the theater. You can't beat the PS3 for reliability or functionality. 180 bucks is cheap but it's a waste of money if it doesn't ultimately meet your needs.
