Default Buying a Blu-Ray player with tax returns...

...and it will almost certainly be a Playstation 3 due to the whole future-proof aspect of it. But I have a few questions about the ps3 before I buy it.

Does it have regular HDMI and digital optical outputs on the back, or is there some lame cable with a special ps3 connection on one side and the hdmi/digital optical on the other that I'll have to buy? Also... stupid question but does the ps3 have a multi-channel analogue audio out? (I seriously doubt it but I thought I'd ask just in case).

Ok, onto the important thing. How's the picture quality? I have a CRT projection that only displays up to 1080i, but with my HD-A2 it looks nicer than most 1080p digital displays I've seen. Particularly in The Sony Store demo setups. Think I'd get the same performance out of a ps3 at 1080i?

no lame cable on the PS3. They are all on the unit itself. I also have an A2 and the quality is identical on the PS3. My TVs also a 1080i display. Oh and there is no analog out on the PS3. Hope this helps.....

It's a great buy, I got mine 1 week ago--I'm in love!

I've also got a 1080i, plays like a champ!

I picked up a second PS3 (40gig) for the plasma in the bedroom. Had the 60gig in main theater.
Speaking of tax returns, my wife threatened me that 'no more electronics in the house until you take us to Disney World'.
Booked the flights Tuesday and picked up the Plasma/PS3 and HD DVD player Saturday.
She said she didn't care as long as Disney's a 'go'.
Now, to see what Bush and the IRS can do regarding that return....

I think I will also be spending my tax return on a PS3, still the best price on a Blu-ray player right now.
