optical & digital coax v. multichannel analog

old receiver has optical, digital coax and analog multichannel inputs but no hdmi inputs. To get best sound from samsung bd-p1400 blu-ray which decodes new DD +, true HD, & DTS master I should use multichannel analog right? or should I be updating to new receiver with HDMI inputs? If multichannel analog can carry the digital sound why upgrade to the HDMI, just because of the number of wires and the mess?

the 1400 will only decode the core of DTS-HD MA.
