Default Sony s300 "stereo" audio setting question...

I have had my s300 for just over a week, and so far so good. Just one minor issue. Obviously, I have the audio output set to 5.1 for my receiver. I also have the stereo output connected directly to my TV because there are times, I simply can't crank it up.
BUT, I only get the L/R channels of the 5.1 like this. I have to go back to the setup menu and select "2 Channel" under speaker output for it work correctly over my TVs audio connection. Then back to 5.1 when I want to use the receiver.
Am I missing something? The stereo output of the BD player should always be stereo, regardless of your audio settings, just like every other DVD, HD DVD player, etc.

Any suggetions/help?
