Default New PS3 Owner!

Yup, it's official, yours truly has gone Blu but remains loyal to HD.

Got me a PS3 40, with the remote and an HDMI cable.

I'm watching The Prestige and am DROOLING! 'Tis a reference disc alright!

I've got the PS3 running through a Onkyo 705.

I also sent in for the 5 free Blu ray discs, we'll see how long it takes.

The PS3's display settings are tedious and can be confusing but noticed that it lets you select almost every audio option available. I'm watching Prestige in LPCM 5.1.

I also noticed that my PS3 is 2.0 compliant right out of the box.

I just bought Across the Universe and cannot wait for it to arrive!

Oh, so how do I get TrueHd playback?

PS3 doesn't support True Dolby HD, or DTS HD. Maybe an update will later, but that's why audiophiles buy standalones.

Man, you should've just bought that Philpis blu ray player; it's SO much better than the PS3.

PS3 has decoded Dolby TrueHD since the day it launched, but does not support DTS HD. True audiophiles know this.

While the PS3 allows you to manually select your settings, it also auto detects them and will check everything your setup supports. PS3 decodes TrueHD onboard...all you have to do choose it under setup options on the disc.

Congrats and enjoy.

True that! I just figured it out. I get paranoid about shit at first, then I tincker and noticed the Onkyo 705 does all the homework for me in detecting the appropriate sound field.

It's the labeling of certain things that also threw me off.

Alls good.

I am right with you on getting paranoid about shit before hand. I just ordered a PS3 and worry about how I am going to set it up. I will have it running a HDMI to my projector, but running optical to a optical to RCA converter, than the converter running to my receiver. I really don't know what the hell my last sentence even means so all I can do is hope it works.

It being a Sony component, you have to make sure that all of you're additional equipment is HDCP compliant. I was paranoid about that in the beginning with HD, and my DVI to HDMI adapter. I'd read that some people were having problems with their DVI-HDMI switching devices, because the devices themselves were not HDCP compliant...but that's a whole other story!
