Default All you ever wanted to know about BD-J*

As Blu-ray profile 1.1 and 2.0 players and software start to emerge, you may want to get informed about what is going on under the hood. The following PDF document provides a lot of great information on how BDMV and BD-J function, how it relates to technology you may already have in your cable or satellite box, and what the future will hold for the technology. From SUN, via the British tech site The Register.

Highlights include:

What Is Blu-ray Disc?
BD-J Stack Overview
BD-J Technical Specifics
New Features of Blu-ray and BD-J
BD-J Authoring

Quick facts:
--BD-J is based on DVB-GEM, the global
“common core” of interactive television
--For legacy DVD menu support (plus seamless menus and PIP) HDMV is included (does not use BD-J)
--Features that BD-J adds include:
Application cache, 5 graphics planes, Picture-in-picture, Frame accurate animations, Audio-mixing, Local storage, Multi-disc application lifecycle, Security aspects
--BD-J applications can persist across multiple discs, for instance a studio can provide catalog searching across all titles, or a game started on one movie disc can continue on the sequel disc.
