Default Panasonic DMP-BD30 Firmware Update

I purchased a BD10A(K) on clearance from CC tonight and decided to update the firmware (BTW, it was very easy to do contrary to what many claim about burning the firmware to a CD-R versus using a built-in ethernet connection ).

During the process, I noticed there was a firmware update for the BD30 dated January 29, 2008 (version 1.4).

Description:
  1. BD-V Playability
  2. DVD-RW Playability

thanks for the head's up! I just checked last night...good catch.

now a rant

Panasonic needs to take a look at Nvidia's driver descriptions, it lists EXACTLY what the update fixes, even by game title.

I would like to see "fixes play back problems with the movie SUNSHINE."

not "improves BD-V playback"

thanks.

oh yeah, end rant.

honestly most people are probably more concerned with the bitstream and the LFE issue I would think. guess that's not ready yet, but good to hear that Panasonic is trying to fix playback issues.
maybe this update does help the audio dropouts reported while having the player set on bitstream. Anybody know?
people have reported that the "earlier" update caused problems. We do need more info for sure.

No improvement to playback of Sunshine with the 1.4 firmware. Still stutters in the same places.

I think Panasonic is awesome for trying to get the fixes out as soon as possible. We all know that the BD30 is profile 1.1, but that only meant it was 1.1 hardware ready, because the 1.1 movies are just hitting shelves. The reason why I say this is because the BD10A is only 1.0 and it ignored what ever extra info the 1.1 profile information was doing to the BD30. As stated in another thread the movie Sunshine played perfectly with bitsteam audio on my BD10A. So for Panasonic to come out with upated firmware for the BD30 this fast is commendable. Hoping Samsung follows shortly for the UP5000 fix because I didn't work either PCM or bitstreaming.

Sorry it didn't do it for Sunshine guys, I'm sure it is right around the corner.

So basically none of the major issues are fixed. Sweet!

Are your problems Josh while having the player set for bitstream?
just wanting to verify that since the number of problems seems to be more obviously on this setting.

The number 1 issue people seem to have with this player is that over HDMI the PCM LFE channel is 5db to low while at the same time it is not 5db to low over 5.1 analog. Since many people bought this player to bitstream new audio codecs this is obviously an issue for them (myself included). There seems to be conflicted reports from Panasonic CSR's on wether this problem will be fixed or not.
