Default 720p: HDMI or Component?

Is there a noticeable picture quality difference in using HDMI and/or Component for 720p output?

To me there is.

The HDMI picture is a lot sharper and more vivid.

I can not tell the difference on a 720p between the two, I've seen many examples of different sources and connections and in many cases the quality is the same.

However the tv would do less conversion by using HDMI

Is it more work on the tv to do the conversion via component? Wear and tear on the unit?

I think it has to be, because HDMI lets the picture and sound through with out any change and Componet makes it into a analog signal.

It probably isnt' a big change though.
I think that is how it works.?

I don't notice a difference on my set, but it could vary from TV to TV.

On an LCD, HDMI is the best. For analog displays you would want to go with component.

I would lump Plasma and DLP into the same category as LCD.

My Visio 720P LCD supports 1080p signal from my PS3 - but pixel resolution is less - so it must scale it down.

HDMI is always the way to go - plus its simple cables
