Default PS3 Display Settings

Hello, guys

I've looked everywhere online and in the forums, but I don't seem to get a straight answer to some simple setting questions on the PS3. Basically, I'm not getting the Blu-rays to looks as good as my HD DVD's did and I don't know what setting to put my PS3 to make them took as good.

Do you guys have "Automatic", "RGB", or "Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr"?

Also, if RBG: "Full" or "Limited"?

I know it depends on your TV, etc... but what does everybody have for a TV similar to a 1080i Samsung LN-S3241D, which is the one I have.

Also, I've done the latests updates, so I'm good to go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hope this helps, and it is coming from my memory....

I have "Automatic" set in "Automatic", "RGB", or "Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr".

Be sure to set the output resolutions to match all the resoultions supported by your TV.

I am assuming that you are using HDMI, or you won't get the full resolution.

Under Display Settings / Video Output Settings I have:

HDMI
All Resolutions
16X9

Under BD/DVD settings

Cinema Conversion = Automatic
DVD Wide Display = Letterbox
DVD Upscaler = Normal (Will fit to the screen size)
BD 1080p 24Hz Output = Automatic

I have a 1080p TV, and these setting are working fine for me. Hope this helps you.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I have a 720P TV. I wonder if it'll still upconvert if I change it to that resolution. Thank for the help.

I don't know. If you have 720p, you probably should not select the 1080 options.

I have a 720p DLP rear projector and I have my PS3 set to 1080i. I can see a big difference between 720p and 1080i but that could be my particular TV as well. It would depend on how well your TV handles 1080i.

Thank you... I guess I'll just have to try all the different settings... but nobody has answered the 720P upscaling? Does it still do it?

It will upconvert DVDs to the highest setting you have available on the PS3 and on your TV. Games however are a different story (except psOne/Ps2 games).

Well, my bedroom TV is not "720", it's actually 768 (and it's a Sony). I set the PS3 to 1080i. Viewing distance is about 10 feet. Looks better than the 720 setting to me.

Don't help this guy out! He used to be a huge HD DVD fanboy! Go back to HD DVD! J/K, friend of mine.

Fanboy or not, he deserves the best hd picture he can get. I also have the same problem. If a consumer spends their hard earned money on technology, doesn't he or she deserve to get their moneys worth? For all those who have tried to give assistance on this issue, thanks.
