Default Which Blu Player?

I have been considering gettting a Blu player, and would like some feedback. I may be purchasing this weekend with my Best Buy 20% off Blu-ray/HDDVD player coupon.

What is a good player with good functionality for a first blu player?

The Pana 50 will be out in a few months...and it goes to 2.0 BD live spec. Currently, the best BD SA is the PANA DMP-BD30...goes to 1.1 PIP Spec. IMHO, the best SA BD players are the Panasonic's, especially for load times, etc.

Keep in mind a couple of things...when the DMP-BD50 is released, the 30 will surely drop in price, prolly more than 20%.

As weird as it may seem...the PS3 is really the best BD player bargain as of this date. It also has full Specs..up to 2.0. No analog out is the biggest drawback to the PS3 for me.

I am right there with you, i got my coupon and want to do my upgrade my player. I really do not care about profile 2.0 so i may make the purchase.

Anyone looking to get a standalone, I think the Panasonic 30 is the way to go. It has the best load times (other than the PS3), bitstreams all audio, and is profile 1.1. It is $500 at Best Buy, but with your coupon it will be $400+tax, not a bad deal at all.

I can't say definitively which player to purchase, but I *can* recommend you don't get the Samsung BD-P1400.

Honestly - and this is coming from a guy that violently opposed using a game console as a movie player - get the PS3. Its faster than any standalone, will be 2.0 profile compatable and will undoubtedly have the highest probability of playing all new titles immediately due to Sony's staying on top of firmware updates. The fact that it has wireless for easy connection to your home network is icing on the cake.

Oh and you can feel good knowing that Sony probably lost a bit of money on the sale and they won't recoup their costs if you don't buy games for it

The above are correct--110%. The PS3 is the best player out there right now even though it cannot send compressed audio files to receivers (like my Onkyo 605) for decoding. If you must go standalone now, get the Panasonic BD-30 as the Samsung mentioned above is not profile 1.1 but rather 1.0. I'd be afraid of possibly having to upgrade again later if I got the Samsung 1400...

I also purchased the Samsung BD-P1400. I upgraded to the latest firmware and had nothing but problems. The menu would not work while a movie was playing and the speaker setup was reset after I turned it off. I took it back and got a PS3. What a difference. Everything plays flawlessy and the wireless internet connection makes firmware updates a breeze. The load time is fast....very fast. Spider Man 3 loads in seconds, compared to minutes on the Samsung. Upconverted DVDs look great, and you can't even notice the layer change. I used to hate that about DVD. It is upgradeable to Profile 2.0. I can't recommend the PS3 enough.

Thanks.

Not looking for a PS3, as I have a 360. I would prefer a standalone.

Unfortunately the BD30 is showing backordered at Best Buy.....

Just think of the PS3 purely a BD player and not a game console. It's the best BD player by far and easily the one to recommend.

And for those wanting to use the BB 20% off coupon on a PS3 , My BB would not honor it because its a "Game Player" , not A BD player. BOOOO
