Default PS3 or BDPS500?

I just went to the store with my parents to pick them out a new tv.

We picked out a Sony KDL40XBR4 for 1999.99
They added the sony BDPS500 for 599.99.

Now will the player be worth it or is the ps3 up to the same quality and capabilities of the standalone player?

Get the PS3. The BDPS500 is Profile 1.0 plus you get all other extra features on the PS3 such as playing PS3 games, downloading trailers and in the future movies and it will be updated to Profile 2.0 this year.

First, what store is that and when you say they added the BDPS500, is that price a deal?

Sorry but that quote you posted is just wrong. I wouldn't focus so much comparing SA against PS3.

Well isn't the BDPS500 a new player that will be able to support 2.0 later on? Plus my step dad is a 360 guy, nothing really on ps3 floats his boat and i think its much easier for my mom to use an actual SA.

I mean my parents added it to their purchase. I told them I'd ask around online if it was a good player.

So basically what I am asking is that if the BDPS500 is a better player than the ps3 (quality wise) since my parents are not big into PS3. But If there barely is any quality difference and the SA will not support 2.0 I want them to take it back and pick up a ps3 instead.

Sorry for double posting but I am going to have them not pick up the player when we pick the tv up today or tomorrow. Then I'll take my step dad over to BB or somewhere to get a ps3 and a BD remote.

The only advantage the BDPS500 has over the PS3 or the S300 is the ability to bitstream Dolby TrueHD to a capable receiver and a motorized faceplate. The BDPS500 is a waste of space as a player and Sony should be ashamed of releasing it 1 day before the profile 1.1 cutoff. Buy a Sony S300 or PS3.
