Default CNET review of the Pana-BD30(1.1).No Ethernet,7.1,no built-in decoding for HD audio

Score: 7.4 ( Very Good)

The good: Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray discs; 1080p output at 24 frames per second; DVD upconversion up to 1080p; HDMI 1.3b output; can output Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio in bitstream format; first Blu-ray Profile 1.1 player; SD card slot can play high-def video from AVCHD camcorders.

The bad: No built-in decoding for high-resolution audio formats; no Ethernet jack for firmware upgrades or future interactive content.

The bottom line: The Panasonic DMP-BD30 offers excellent video quality and is Blu-ray Profile 1.1 compliant, but those who want high-resolution audio will need a cutting-edge AV receiver.

Oh good.. I was fearful there would have been something in the review to cause me to look at mine in a poor light. That's not much of an upgrade to me.

Just curious where you saw 7.1? Since the player can bitstream the audio to the receiver that makes sense, but internally I think its 5.1. Also analog out is 5.1.

I have no issue with the fact that this player does not contain any built-in decoding for TrueHD and etc, but does anyone know if this player can play SACDs?

I was considering this player or the new 40gig PS3 but just found out that the new PS3 no longer plays SACDs....that bummed me out, so, that's no longer an option. I'm guessing it doesn't but haven't really heard anything.

I never said that the Panasonic had 7.1. In other words I made a reference to the features that could've been inlcuded in the player. Maybe I wasn't clear about that.

Sorry Nell. Overlooked the word no at the beginning of the sentence.
