PCM should only be used if your receiver has HDMI and supports lossless audio. You can have an HDMI receiver and not have it support PCM (lossless)

I'm using bitstream & LOVE IT. Last night while watching Wild Hogs on my 7.1 system was pure joy. This is beyond impressive!!

Make sure you got into the setup section on the disc and choose uncompressed audio.

I sold my Pioneer Elite and have one of these 605's on it's way. I loved my elite but I couldn't get lossless audio out of it.

The 605 does support lossless. So here is a couple of things I have learned with the ps3 and my 605.
1. If watching a movie in pcm set the out put on the ps3 to linear pcm.
2. If you are watching a BD in Dolby or DTS set the ps3 to bitstream so that the 605 is doing the decoding. Hope this helps...........

Do you really have to manually change the settings in the PS3 when you go from Blu-ray to DVD (and vice versa)?

Not really sure what settings your referring to. If your talking about the audio options on regular dvd's since 90% use Dolby or Dts I just leave the Ps3 on the Bitstream option. Now when watching Blu-Ray I will sometimes switch it over to the PCM option. But since the 605 handles lossless PCM it will sound the same if you leave it on either option while watching a PCM BD. Just make sure its on Bitstream while watching Dolby or DTS

I was messing with it this last week (have the 605 also). If you have the PS3 set to bitstream, the receiver will decode the audio(Dolby Digital & DTS) for regular DVDs. For Blu-ray and still having it set to bitstream it will send LPCM to the receiver when your watching it with the uncompressed PCM track. However, if bitstream is selected and you play a Blu-ray movie that has Dolby TrueHD its not playing the full bitstream, its just letting your receiver decode the lossy core from it. If you want to hear the full bitrate of Dolby TrueHD you have to set it to PCM and let the PS3 decode it then it'll send it to the receiver as LPCM. Kind of find this annoying since I prefer Dolby TrueHD over uncompressed PCM if the title offers both and hate having to go back and chnage it, a simple automatic option would do. Unfortunately the PS3 cant bitstream Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD MA to the receiver (though the 605 has the capability). Hopefully in the future a patch will give the PS3 the ability to decode DTS-HD MA.
