Default Does BD-P1400 work with BD-J?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone heard word about how the BD-P1400 does/will work with BD-J Blu-ray discs? I know that it was supposed to be a required spec this fall, but I would have thought that they would be boasting that about the player if it was included. Does this mean that BD-J discs or features won't work? Can it be a firmware update to add that in the future or will that require a new player?

All current BD players have BD-J. What you are referring to is the 1.1 spec that mandates PIP capablities and flash memory.
All players can do BD-Java games, etc.

Thank you for the clarification. So the 1.1 spec then, will discs that use PiP not be able to be played on older players? Additionally can a firmware upgrade just be used for that capability or will it make players obsolete. I'm strongly considering of making the BD-P1400 my first stand-alone HD player but I don't want to have to replace it in a month or two when the 1.1 spec is finalized and required.
