Default Major French Disc Producer Orders Production Line for Blu-ray Discs from SINGULUS

" SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES (SINGULUS) has the pleasure to announce that they received a new order from the French disc manufacturer Quantum Optical Laboratories (QOL), Vernouillet, for a fully automated production system BLU-LINE for Blu-ray Discs. This order is another, positive signal for the launch of Blu-ray Discs in Europe. This second order received from a European customer in combination with an additional order from an Asian customer prove that Blu-ray is starting to establish itself outside of the US as well.

aurent Villaume, President of QOL comments:”Undoubtedly we want to become a market leader in Europe in the field of high definition. Our involvement until now in DVD & HD DVD– already recognized internationally – in the development, research and implementation of the new Blu-ray Discs technology, will be further established with this order for a Blu-ray production machine. QOL will contribute to the penetration of next-generation discs and the growth of the market itself. We decided for SINGULUS because of the proven Blu-ray Single layer technology and have also chosen the Dual Layer upgrade which will be delivered in a few month time. We run many SPACELINE machines for our DVD and HD DVD production. Their support and service is unmatched!”

SINGULUS has many years of experience in the work area of Blu-ray due to an early, exclusive cooperation with the format developer Sony in 2005 and already installed several Blu-ray production machines at the largest, independent disc producers in the US. For the further development of the Blu-ray production machine for the manufacturing of dual layer Blu-ray disc with 50 GB storage capacity SINGULUS works closely together with Sony. SINGULUS will introduce its new production equipment for dual layer Blu-ray on the market shortly.

Short profile Quantum Optical Laboratories QOL has always considered itself as the partner of Video Edition and Cinema. QOL is recognized by the major French Video Publishers and certified by four American studios for DVD replication. Supported by its 150 employees and its 7 years' experience, QOL has naturally been taking an interest in HD for over 3 years.

QOL has organised and taken part in several conferences on that subject and produced in May 2006 the very first HD DVD in Europe, the movie "2046" which was presented to its famous director and president of the Cannes Film Festival 2006, Mister Wong Kar Waï and also made the replication of the very first "Certified THX" HD DVD in the world named "Pan's Labyrinth" also presented to its director Guillermo Del Toro.

Already equipped with a High Definition mastering (SINGULUS LBR 266) and with all the High Definition testing equipments, QOL has just signed the acquisition of a Blu-ray line with SINGULUS.

Thus, QOL has become one of the first independent replicator to be equipped with Blu-ray in order to answer the needs of the European market. "
