Default 200gb BDs

to my understanding BDs are determined by the laser used to read the data right? so why wouldn't drives today be able to read these discs, if it is because there is more than 2 layers and it cant recognize more than 2 layers couldnt that be fixed with a FW update? and if it is because the laser is different wouldnt that make it a completely different format?

For one drives would have to be programed to recognize that these discs do in fact have to read at multiple layers. (More than two). Basically once it reaches the second layer and finishes it, it will most likely stop.
