Default OPPO BDP-103D Universal Blu-ray player (December 2013 Widescreen Review magazine)

OPPO BDP-103D Universal Blu-ray player

(December 2013 Widescreen Review magazine)

OPPO Blu-ray players are designed in the United States and assembled in China with an excellent build quality (with 2 year warranty). On pages 40,42, and 43 of the December 2013 Widescreen Review magazine there is an excellent review on the new OPPO BDP-103D which was released in October of 2013.

The following are select word for word quotes from page 43 of the December 2013 Widescreen Review magazine

“When it comes to digital audio, there were no detectable differences between the three machines (103, 105, 103D) via HDMI or digital coax. Analog audio was the same for the 103D and 103, while the 105 retained an edge in analog performance that is responsible for the price differential over the other machines.”

“Viewing movies with Darbee processing in OFF mode and no image enhancements selected in the Picture Adjust menu produced results so similar looking between the three machines that I declared a draw. When viewing Blu-ray movies and setting the 103D’s Darbee processing to Hi-Def mode with Level 50, the 103D had an edge over the other two machines, as you would expect from images with Darbee processing versus unprocessed images.”

“Viewing Blu-ray movie clips back and forth between the 103 and 103D, I was unable to pick out any differences between the two machines. But as soon as Darbee processing was enabled and set to a reasonable level and was in a reasonable mode, the 103D had images that definitely looked better.”

“So as far as I am concerned OPPO’s claim that the BDP-103D has the same video performance as the BDP-103 and BDP-105 is accurate even though there might be a tiny technical difference.”

“Early on, OPPO had an image quality advantage for Blu-ray and for upconverted DVD, but those advantages have been whittled away by improved quality in the chip sets used in lower-cost disc players.”

“The BDP-103D expands on that concept with Darbee processing that, when used appropriately, gives OPPO an image quality advantage over other standalone disc players.”
