Default Original Launch 60GB PS3 Cannot Play Oblivion Blu-ray Disc

This is on a 2006 launch day 60GB PS3. The Rock! I thought I was crazy at first, but the Oblivion Blu-ray disc (released last week) will display the Universal Logo and then go through the Universal logo title sequence (audio and all) and then just sit spinning and choking on a black screen that never resolves itself. Updated firmware on PS3 to 4.46 (latest I believe) and same result. Disconnected internet connectivity from player and same result. The 40GB PS3 player (released some 8 months later from the launch editions) with the latest firmware 4.46 (tried it connected and not connected to the internet) plays the Oblivion Blu-ray just fine. Trailers work, menu work and movie plays. No black screen issues at all. Anyone have a PS3 60GB and Oblivion Blu-ray they can test for me with? I appreciate it. The 60GB one is of course in my living room :-(

This is usually a Fix issue - new batch of movies, new batch of copy protection.
Common fix though is to delete the BD Live folder on the hard drive or memory device, but sounds like a best of luck with letting Sony know there is an issue.

Just to add...I have a slim that behaved exactly as your 60GB unit. I had to watch the movie on DVD instead! I'll try the fix here and hope it helps. I figured the problem was BD-Live related, and I have a very poor dsl connection so I put the blame there.

Well thank you everyone for your advice! I deleted the BD Live folder Oblivion created on my PS3 and unplugged my PS3 from the network. I popped the Oblivion Blu-ray disc in and it booted up with no qualms and made it to the disc's main menu! No wonder my parents don't want to mess with Blu-rays and technology. LOL

Yet another reason why BD Live is a failure... SIGH.
Glad to see you got the problem fixed.

What was the BD-Live setting on your PS3, or does it not matter in this case?

Thank you Krawk.

The disc upon first time insertion (I think if your player is connected to Net) automatically creates a BD-Live folder on your PS3. I tried without and with Net connection and it wasn't until I deleted that folder that when I put disc in it would display Uni logo and finally go to disc menu (I was off net while doing this so I don;t know what happens next time when my PS3 is on the wire again).
