Too much, way too much money, and a Mickey Mouse AC power plug! ...And no Multichannel analog out!

The OPPO BDP-93 for only $499 offers 1080i output over component video (BD-SP809 is limited to 480i over component since the player launched in 2011 (because of the AACS rules). Also the OPPO BDP-93 for $100 cheaper offers SACD, DVD-Audio, and 7.1 analog audio outputs.

The Onkyo BD-SP809 looks like it has good build quality but for a $100 less the OPPO BDP-93 does a lot more. http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=BD-SP809&class=DVD&p=i

While the above points are true for the Oppo, the Oppo BDP-93 is missing several significant features that competitors can capitalize on:

For instance:
* Streaming lossless WMA - oppo can only stream lossy (panasonic dmp-bdtx10 can do lossless)
* Option of 2D>3D conversion - oppo cannot do this (panasonics, samsungs can)
* 3D depth adjustment/tweaking - oppo cannot do this to my knowledge (panasonic can)
* Support of streaming DRM-protected unlimited download formats like Zune Pass

While the Onkyo may or may not do these things, they are certainly nice features to have that the Oppo BDP-93 lacks. For someone who already has an HDMI receiver and TV and never invested in the now dead SACD/DVD-A formats, these missing features may be much more useful than 7.1 analog outs or 1080i over component.

Bottom line, the BDP-93 is missing enough features that one should seriously consider competing devices.

If you wanna stream and do 2D > 3D conversion, and adjust 3D depth, and all that Jazz;
there are BD players out there for just over $100 that can do!
Sammy, Sony for example.

true, but Sony and Panny don't have Marvel Qdeo upscaler.

Besides, Oppo is selling at full MSRP, the Onkyo will sell anywhere between $100 to $200 below MSRP.

Is the Marvell Qdeo video upscaler worth that much more? ...I don't thinkkk sooo!

Panny new improved Uniphier video processor is as good!
But the laser lens and mechanism tray motor are not good though!

Sony is weak, very weak on picture quality and color accuracy. Sony is going down!

Get the Up, Uppo!

Definitely you never actually tried Marvell Qdeo viewed from screen-size vs vieweing distance at THX or even SMPTE ratio. The upscaling difference, especially on froma bad DVD is extremely noticable on my 96" screen viewed from 9ft away.

Hi Ruined, I didn't know you're here too!

just to add, the two features above are also available on Sony BDP-Sx80 series and in terms of upscaling, at $300 CDN, Sony BDP-S780 also includes SBM-V that really helps with cleaning up Netflix block noise and mosquito noise even better than BDP-S580 or anyone of today's Panasonic Uniphier II chips.
