Has anyone determined if these firmware releases install the cinavia rootkit in these players?

I was hoping that the firmware update would fix my player. It didn't. It still wont play the "I spit on your grave" discs. Original or remake. They play in my LG player just fine.
I've had the sony player for about a year and never had a problem with it. It's always played anything i threw at it, until now.

Oh... the model player i have is in my sig.

Sorry for the rant.

I called Sony and ordered the firmware update discs for my players. They used to allow ordering right over the web-site, but now they want a phone call. Seems like a waste, but it's their labor expense manning the phones, I guess. By the time they arrive, hopefully we'll have more feedback on exactly what these firmware updates do, and whether they introduce any problems or unpleasant surprises. Since my players are working fine, I'm not in a rush anyway.

This utility upgrades the Blu-ray Disc player firmware to version 024 and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over firmware version 021:

Improves BD-ROM playability.
Benefits provided by previous upgrades and included in version 024:

Improves compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs.
Adds slow and freeze frame functions during Blu-ray Disc and DVD playback.
Improved BD-Live performance to enhance interactivity.
Adds BD-Live functionality.

BD-Live allows you to enjoy additional content and services while playing a BD-Live capable disc.
For optimal performance, we recommend that you use a Broadband Internet connection to access BD-Live content and services.
BD-Live content and services require external USB flash memory (sold separately) for local storage.
Improved sensitivity to the Remote Commander® signal while the player is in stand-by mode.

The Good News: Wow . . the firmware update discs arrived from Sony yesterday. That was pretty quick.
The Bad News: these idiots sent only the old version 021 firmware update discs, and did not send an appropriate update disc for the S1000ES player at all.
They must have seen these lying around somewhere and decided to get rid of them?

Update:
I just got off the phone with them. Plenty of apologies - and a reorder of the firmware discs, including a specific discussion of what the latest versions are (version 024 for the S550 and 011 for the S1000). I can't wait to see what shows up . . .

Another update:
Guess what came in the mail today from Sony.
4 firmware update discs in 4 separate envelopes complete with installation paperwork for each disc.
Good - right? Wrong!
2 of these are for BDP-S350/550 players - and both of those are the old firmware (021 instead of 024).
The other 2 are for the BDP-S1000ES player - but these also are the old firmware (008 instead of 011).
Unbelievable incompetency!

Another update:
Called and ordered the latest firmware updates again. The agent assured me they would be the correct latest versions and they would arrive within 2 days. Yeah . . right . . but we're going to do this over and over until we get it right.

3/4/11 update: firmware #024 for the 350/550 showed up today in the mail. HOORAY! Hopefully firmware #11 will show up for the S1000es tomorrow?

3/5/11 update: Applied firmware #24 to a Sony BDP-SS350 & a Sony BDP-S550.
The firmware installed without issue & tested with no functional issues noted (including no cinavia infection hidden in the firmware).

I went to their site and what they call 024 is actually 021 once you unzip it. What the hell is going on with this elusive firmware?! Who else hosts the file?

I had actually downloaded this a while ago and still have it on my drive. How did you decide it was the older firmware? Firmware 021 came out last October. I do not see a number on the new file - but it does have a file date of 1/31/2011 - vs. a file date of 9/16/10 for firmware 021 which I also still have hanging around. I confess I did not use this latest firmware downloaded file, as I had ordered a disc from Sony also and simply used it once it showed up.

When burned and inserted into the player the prompt shows 7.2.021.
Perhaps a faulty version label?
Anyway I loaded it as it was still an upgrade for me, and player now reports 7.2.021.
