Exclamation Samsung Blu-ray players won't play Warner, Universal movies after firmware update, re

From Engadget.com:
Quote:
As annoying as continuous Blu-ray player updates are, usually having the latest one is the best way to play more movies. Unfortunately the opposite was the case for Samsung (again) with the v2.09 update posted recently for its 2009 BD-Px600 line of players. Forum posters on CNET and AVSForum report the upgrade blocked them from playing Universal and Warner Bros. movies, which conveniently lock up after displaying the title image. Samsung's rolled back to an an older firmware version (v2.07) on its support site that should fix things for now, but with some users still having problems downgrading, all they can do is wait for the next update, whenever that arrives. Some help line reps have said the new version should arrive "in a couple of weeks," but it's not like you really wanted to watch Clash of the Titans or Book of Eli right now anyway, right?

The moral of this story is . . think twice before purchasing a Samsung optical media player of any type.

+1,000,000

I have a Panny BD30 bought in 2008. Haven't updated the firmware once and it has played every disc perfectly.

I had a problem with Universal's Repo Men playing on my Sammy 2550, the first half played perfect but about half way through it started freezing. Not sure if it was software related or my player just didn't like the combo disc. It's the first movie that I've ever had a problem on.

Incidentally, the same movie played flawlessly on my Oppo BD83.

Or Sony after the PS3 3.X firmware update can cause the BD drive to fail, hard drive errors or, even worse, how the 2.4 upgrade will brick your machine.

Never had issues with Sony PS3 updates.....but will never buy Samsung products. Work in a retail store and we have sooooo many Samsung blu ray players returned for not playing discs or firmware issues.

I have a PS3 and have had numerous Samsung BD players (1400, 1500, 1600, 3600 and now a 6900) and I never had a problem with any of them

I had a first generation BD-P1000 and that thing was a POS.

I now have a BD-P1500 in the bedroom and it has played everything flawlessly. Not as fast as my Sony S550 or S570's, but still solid.

and this is why i'm glad i dont do the firmware updates for my stand alone player. it plays everything fine so there's no need to update squat. many of the updates were often related to the blu-ray only extras like BD Live etc... and those are all pretty damn retarded and useless features anyway so yeah.
