Default Sony BDP-S300 question...

Legit question, no flamebait.

Does the Sony BDP-S300 have HDMI 1.3? From what I have been reading it doesn't.

BDP-S300 vs DMP-BD10A

Neither player can ever support DTS-HD MA, due to hardware limitations. Neither can fully support BD profile 1.1, due to hardware limitations. Neither has HDMI 1.3. Neither can ever output undecoded TrueHD or DTS-HD MA bitstreams to a HDMI 1.3 receiver.

I'm really surprised neither of these highly touted Gen 2 players have HDMI 1.3. I'm even more surprised they won't be able to support the HD profile 1.1 due out in just 4 months.

and that is why you should just buy a PS3. If you think about it, only thing the PS3 wont ever have is a front LCD to display the time... which isn't a big deal!

My pleasure. For anyone considering getting a blu-ray player, I second Mr. English's recommendation of the PS3. If you're comfortable with eBay - one can pick a PS3 for considerably less than retail.

Among other reason, even on blu-ray.com I read the Java on the Pirates movies can take several minutes to load even on the S300, while there's hardly any noticeable delay on the PS3.

The thing is, I don't want a gaming system.

Think of it as a feature. The PS3 does more than BD & Gaming... It's an Entertainment System. I also use it to stream music, pictures and video from my Mac to the TV.

Guess its one of those things that you don't know what your missing until you see it for yourself.

Glad that works out well on a Mac. When FW 1.80 came I thought I'd give it a try with my PC & Windows Media Server - it bogged down my PC so badly I quickly gave up.

As for it being a game system, I had reservations too. I have ZERO interest in gaming. The last time I played a video game my 14 yr. nephew whooped my tail on Madden All Star Football . . and my nephew is now married with kids.

But it's a sleek looking little box that looks just fine sitting next to my XA1 HD DVd player. And boy it sure is fast - pop in a disk and before I get back to my chair it's loaded up.

I hear you man! We're in the same boat. I'm ready to go neutral and was really dissapointed by the lack of support offered by this player. I've decided I'm waiting for October. These early players are a joke.
