Gotcha, thanks. So is there a memory feature to remember default is set for Blu and possible changes to SD? I probably wouldn't change anything anyway.

Has anyone played with these settings to see if they do improve SD?

For me it gets to be too much when everything has it's own settings. I have my TV calibrated. To me, that should be it. I shouldn't have to mess with anything else.

Actually, there is only one memory and it's global. So, if you make
changes for dvd it will effect Blu-ray unless you change them back to
default.

A feature request has been sent to OPPO for multiple memory picture
adjustments.

Example: Memory 1, Memory 2, Memory 3

Normally on problematic dvd's I use a little noise reduction in combination
with some detail or edge enhancement. You have to experiment to see
what works well, it can vary from disc to disc.

Honestly I think 2 profiles would suffice, one automatically engages for SD, one for bluray. But yeah, global doesn't work very well.

List price is 599, I wouldn't be surprised if it came up at 599 for the general public.

Anyways, time for me to sell my oppo 981 and my sony s350.

I think I can get 150 for my oppo and 150-180 for my s350 on ebay, thusly, making this oppo 83 a great deal for me.
It will be $499 for the lifetime of the player. Oppo has even confirmed this. They did this before with their last DVD player.

It's a bad design imo. There should be at least two profiles, maybe even
three.

My XA2 has three and my Pioneer 51 has three.

It's a good design if you understand you shouldn't screw with your HD settings anyway

Any news for making it DVD region free? That's the only reason that keeps me from buying one as I have a lot of region 2 PAL stuff on DVD and I want to have a BR Player that can handle them, or else I'll just stick with my 981HD

They seem to be offering some mods for the OPPO.

wouldn't those void your warrentee? Sort of like my plot to upgrade my Tivo HD's hard drive to 1TB is going to void mine?

Without a doubt, warranty would be void.
