Default Who's in da BD3D-300 club?

Keeping up with the tradition of 'BD3D' club threads, like Da BD3D-100 club and Da BD3D-200 club threads, here is Da BD3D-300 club thread... As of today, I am at 240, which includes orders/pre-orders, the last two being 'Lost Place' and 'Viy' - I'm looking forward to the last Resident Evil film, as well as practically every avengers and star wars 3D film to come, not to mention Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys, Prometheus 2, and any 3D projects associated with Ang Lee and Ridley Scott. I'm also still hoping we'll get to see a sequel to Hansel and Gretel and Dredd. Supposedly Hansel and Gretel has been greenlit and has a script, but no word on whether the original stars will return.

Warner Bros also just signed a deal, to release 30 films on IMAX within the next few years, many of which will be in 3D, including a Lego movie sequel, Godzilla 2, and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In the spoiler tag is a list of planned RealD releases between May 15th, 2015 and July 12th, 2019. I wanted to include this list, because I'm nowhere near 300 yet, and I just wanted to show everyone a portion of what I (and everyone else) will have to choose from, to be at that magical number, since there's no way I can estimate sixty different films that would seal the deal.

    Spoiler:
May 1, 2015 Disney Avengers: Age of Ultron

Of course, there probably will be a few films that get added before 2019 comes around, like a Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sequel, coming out in July 2017. There will probably be some films that are cancelled and taken away as well. I believe I'll hit my 300 3D bluray mark before July 12th, 2019, but this list does show that 3D is still alive and well.

My main reason for starting this new thread has little to do with hitting 300, as it's still a long way away from me, but more to do with discussing what I (and hopefully others) are anxiously awaiting, for the future. What future 3D films is everyone else waiting to see? As anyone that has spent a lot of times in this 3D forum probably knows, I'm hoping they will eventually greenlight the Black Widow solo film. Scarlett Johansson recently mentioned she's wanting to do the solo film. This comes right after reports that women superheroes usually don't get action figures or good merchandising, with this specific article mentioning fans being angry that Black Widow is missing from the avengers merchandising. I personally believe that Black Widow is one of the best, if not THE best, female superhero ever portrayed on the big screen.

There has been some information out there to suggest there could be a Resident Evil reboot, after Resident Evil 6 is released. I love the resident evil series, although the last one didn't really do it for me. I think that Alice has just run her course, and there are other scenarios that could have played out better, to keep the series going, with new material, new heroes, etc. Unfortunately, this is what happens when your (Paul W.S. Anderson's) wife (Milla Jovovich) is the main star. He kills off most of the would-be stars, one by one, and I really don't want to get into specifics, because that may be a spoiler, but considering the trailer for the last film had a lot of clones (a good excuse to bring back old stars) we obviously know that many came back, including Michelle Rodriguez, as good Rain and bad Rain, as well as many others. I hated Jill Valentine's new look. About the only good thing (IMO) about the last one was the introduction of what actually inspired Alice's character, because Alice wasn't part of the video game series: Ada Wong. Maybe one day, I'll revisit this film and have a change of heart. As of now, I can only hope that Paul W. S. Anderson ends the series with respect to the fans that have been going to the theaters to see his movies and buying his films over and over.

RE6: The Final Chapter 3D is suppose to start shooting this summer, but with only a handful of stars in the listed cast (some rumored) so far:
    Spoiler:

    Milla Jovovich Alice
    Wentworth Miller Chris Redfield (rumored)
    Sienna Guillory Jill Valentine (rumored)
    Spencer Locke K-Mart (rumored)
    Bingbing Li Ada Wong (rumored)
    Shawn Roberts Albert Wesker (rumored)
Johann Urb Leon Scott Kennedy (rumored)
    Jacob Evans Tom - survivor

As for a reboot, I hope that whoever does it continues to film in 3D, but as we know, there are a lot of directors that don't like to shoot in 3D. It's probably too early to know if the reboot will be live action or computer animated. The last film, Retribution, had a budget of $65 million and brought in $240 million on the worldwide box office, not to mention whatever they made through home video and merchandising. As long as RE6 continues the series success, there will be no reason for studios not to reboot the series. Just for reference, the 2D versions of RE brought in 102.4 to 147.7 million dollars at the worldwide box office, while the 3D versions brought in 240.2 to 296.2 - to me, this shows that 3D is also a big money maker as well.

My personal favorite RE films, from best to worst, are:

    RE - The debut film
    RE: Afterlife 3D
    RE: Extinction
RE: Apocalypse (even though it's somewhat low-ranked by me, I thought Jill Valentine made the film a fan-favorite)
    RE: Retribution 3D

With Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return and The Taking of Tiger Mountain, I'm at 259, with 41 more to go. Still anxiously awaiting the next Resident Evil 3D film, as well as the next Thor and Captain America films, not to mention all of the boatloads of Star Wars sequels, prequels, and spinoffs that Lucasfilm/Disney are planning. It's sad to see that the Dredd sequel hasn't gotten anywhere, and also that the planned/rumored Black Widow solo film doesn't seem to be in the works any more.

But let's talk about some of the planned 3D movies, from the current RealD release calender.

Underdogs will be getting a theatrical release this month. The German blu-ray will actually also be out at the end of the month, although I doubt it will have an English track or subtitles. This is an Argentine film, and it apparently outsold tickets to Despicable me 2 and Monsters University at the time. The Weinstein Company bought the rights to it in the states and a few other countries. It looks to have pretty good animation. I hope it comes out in the states, in 3D.

Everest ... Based on a true story, a disaster drama, and in 3D... This could be a beautiful 3D experience, with all of the mountains and scenery. Perhaps the next Gravity?

The Martian ... I'm not a big Matt Damon fan and think that his acting is good in limited genres, but this is Ridley Scott, and the premise sounds cool. I personally can't wait to see it.

I'm at 271 now, and because I've slowed down on buying films since before the holiday 2015 season, it may still be awhile before the big 300. I'm still looking forward to the final Resident Evil 3D film and Cameron's Terminator 2 3D conversion, if it comes to blu-ray 3D, but for the most part, there isn't much out there that calls out to me. I'll still buy the Marvel, X-Men, Transformers, Alien/Prometheus, TMNT, and Star Trek stuff and probably the Star Wars live action stuff, if they do decide to release those films on blu-ray 3D.

The last few blu-ray 3D films I've purchased or pre-ordered have been:

    Jaws 3
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
    Captain America: Civil War
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
    X-men: Apocalypse
    Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn
    Independence Day: Resurgence
    Miss Sadie Thompson

I've definitely not caught up, in terms of buying all of the 3D films on my want list, but the ones I really wanted badly, I've pre-ordered or acquired. I'm contemplating whether or not to get Force Awakens, Warcraft, Through the Looking Glass, Ghostbusters, or Star Trek: Beyond but am certainly looking forward to It came from outer space, Legend of Tarzan, Jungle Book, and Suicide Squad. Film that are already released that I haven't gotten but kind of want include Hotel Transylvania 2, Pan, Everest, Inside Out, Goosebumps, Zootopia, Wreck it Ralph, the Good Dinosaur, and some of the IMAX documentaries, not to mention a few of the Asian 3D films.

No, I'm still not in the BD3D-300 club yet. Will I get there before 2017? I guess only time will tell.

Including orders, pre-orders, and a few anaglyph releases, I'm at 301. So, yeah, 27ish months later, to get from 240 to 301. Pretty long time, but this year, I probably slacked off on getting 3D releases, because of other financial priorities. I'm still looking forward to Terinator 2 3D, which is supposed to be released in the states in October, but so far, it's the only version that isn't available for pre-order yet.. Then, yeah, the usual stuff, like Marvel releases, Valerian, etc.. I'm sort of surprised that we get any new 3D releases at all in the states.
