Default Beowulf 3D coming to Blu, but not in North-America?

Beowulf 3D - Amazon.de Pre-order

Coming September 25th, 2014. This film was shot in stereoscopic 3D and got a lot of praise, but many people have wondered why it didn't ever get a 3D blu-ray release. So far, it seems it's only being released in Germany.

Hmmm... If it's Germany, it may not be legitimate 3D. It may be the 2D version of the movie run through a quickie real-time converter box.

The 1080p 3D version is out on Netflix apparently, for those that are on an ISP that supports their 'SUPER HD' services. That means there is a 3D HD master out there already, but I'm sure we'll know for sure in a couple months or less.

Is this the same movie that came out during the HD Format wars?

Yes, the blu-ray came out about five months after the dvd and hd-dvd release on July 29, 2008.

Has my interest piqued. Why wouldn't they give this a North American release though??

People have been asking for it since 3DTVs started hitting the marketplace. It hasn't been due to the lack of consumer demand, although this late in the game, you never know how 3D consumers will respond to its release. They should have released it while 3D was at the center of the mainstream market and not when it plateaued out.

Maybe this will clear up some confusion about it possibly being a German-only 3D conversion:

Just hope the German release is region free. Maybe we can still yet see a press release for this 3D flick in the states???

The French version page says "Toutes les régions" (all region) while the German page doesn't say either way. Chances are, the German version will be locked to B. Most of their stuff is.
