Default Personal Testimonial: Toshiba got me with their prices

I am a die hard Blu fan, at the inner most core. Since purchasing PS3 last July, I've been consistently wowed by the massive selection and fantastic video quality of Blu-Ray. I scoffed at Toshiba and their (what I thought at the time) fancy paper weight.

However, I, as an average consumer, couldn't simply ignore the prices. I couldn't resist, and finally bit the bullet and purchased an HD-A3 for $100.04 at my local Circuit City. No matter how you cut it, $100 with 7 free movies is one hell of a deal.

Point? Price is very important, and I think Toshiba may get a lot of business from the impulse buyers like myself. Cheers to format neutrality!

I'm with you man. Even if these are the next Laser Disc or Beta Max they still play movies in hi def. Will see what happens, Beta was better than vhs btw.

Looks like Toshiba should have been consistently selling A3s at this $100 price BEFORE the holidays. Then maybe they wouldn't have lost Warner. The constant price waffling between $150 and $220 for the last 2 months of '07 really killed the momentum that the Walmart sale could have started for them... $100 players would have done a hell of lot for HD DVD over the holidays.

I plan to wait for complete fire sales on HD DVD discs on Ebay if/when the format finally folds. I bet there will be LOTS of really cheap HD content available, beats paying $30/disc for blu-ray.

Perhaps you're less of a format fan that you thought and more of a movie fan.

I'm interested in getting an HD DVD at such low price too...if only there were brands other than Toshiba.

I'm a die hard HD DVD fan, and I never say don't buy the other format because I don't think it's right to tell people to limit themselves to one format and besides it's a very selfish thing to say.

Timed exclusive... timed... or do you never expect those to make it onto Blu-ray once the studios switch?

if they ever did, it could take years... which is ok for a format lover I guess, but being a movie lover I would have a hard time waiting that long...

I work at Costco and have considered buying a HD DVD player now that they are $129. But, I don't want to fuel the war any longer. I will buy a HD DVD player for shits and giggles when the war is Over Over! I want The Thing in HD and if the HD player and movie prices are low enough i'll bite!

Welcome to purple, no matter what the future brings you will not regret your purchase. I suggest picking up some HD exclusives while you're at it, bourn would be good, Zodiac would be another excellent one, transformers is pretty decent.
