Default I hate Sony and all of their garbage...

Yeah I know they aren't the only ones behind Blu-Ray but I just cannot stand Sony....

Too many reasons to explain but here is one big one, I hope it spells out loud and clear!

DVD FORUM SUPPORTS HD DVD!

I think you should read a little about the history of Blu-ray and HD DVD and how HD DVD got the support of the DVD forum if that's one of your main reasons...

Basically... The forum denied Blu-ray and approved a dual-layer DVD-9 disc, then Toshiba announced HD DVD and it was denied in the DVD forum twice, 3 new members were added to the DVD forum and the rules were changed, HD DVD got the approval.

Not exactly a unanimous endorsement...

I love HD DVD and Blu-ray equally but I just think the whole DVD forum really was manipulated and the whole endorsement was very shady.

I hate Sony too! Lets say in theory I really wanted the Simpsons in high def and if I in theory bought a USED PS3, would Sony make a profit if I bought all future movies used? In theory....cough...(clears throat)....GO RED!

I don't like them for their anti-consumer practices.

1) Rootkit stuff that happened.

2) Everything they make they want you to use their proprietary garbage

Those are 2 reasons right now why I hate the company and refuse to support anything they make. Hell I don't even go to the theatre to watch a movie that was done by them or one of their studios, ala MGM, Columbia Tri-Star etc.

I am a rootkit victim myself, but would you buy a used PS3 for your favorite movie, if Sony does not make a dime from it? Should I confess to a priest....If I did buy a used 60gb PS3 to watch my favorite movie...ahem....GO RED!

My opinion: There are way better reasons to go Red.
I surmise you're not a serious movie buff.
And, you have some issues that require professional intervention.
Anyhow, to each his own.

LOL, tell us in which way you are an VICTIM of the rootkit... I'm going to love ripping that apart. The fact it, it was in no way malicious, or even system damaging. Come on then....

I hated Sony too.

But now I love them for the PS3 is one of the greatest deals ever.

I know only 2 Blu-Ray players cheaper or equal in price. One is the new Samsung and the other is the Sharp one. Else I don't know if one or both are nearly as good as the PS3.

So I was watching Casino Royale last night and as usual, I noticed the constant Sony product placement. If you are a movie lover, product placement can be quite annoying. The fact that Sony is a movie studio AND an electronics company means that their products will be constantly shoved down our throats in movies like Bond where gadgets are used quite a bit. Granted, Paramount sold themselves to the devil (General Motors) with Transformers. GM was given exclusive product placement rights for the film so every car was a Chevy, Pontiac, etc.

At Amazon.com there are two Blu-ray players under $300, a Samsung and a Sony. The Sharp one is under $400, so there's at least 3 that are cheaper than the PS3.

You know why I dislike Sony (note - don't hate, just dislike) - SACD. They (finally) come up with a music meduim that is worlds better than CD, they promote the hell out of it, they price their initial machines reasonably, the machines work flawlessly, AND THEY STILL SCREWED IT UP! How? All of their inital software releases were single-sided, meaning they ONLY played in SACD machines. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. Then they couldn't understand why the public didn't "rush" to embrace it. Their answer to that? Pretty much abandon the format. Lovely.

All you Blue-Rayers better hope Sony wins the format war quickly (and I mean REAL QUICKLY) or Sony will probably do the same with that format that they did with SACD - abandon it. It would scare the hell out of me personally.

The difference is: BLU-RAY IS NOT JUST SONY.

They overprice their mediocre products, but since it says "Sony" everyone always thinks its the best product out on the market.

Wrong, goddamn I don't know how to express how much I hate sony

Good thing Toshiba does everything right... like sell nuclear secretes to the Russians during the cold war.
