Default Why I swallowed the red pill...

To be honest, I was just about to go Blu Ray 2 days ago.

I was going to buy the PS3 and take the dive into the blu. Even though I would probably only play 2-3 games on the PS3. I had about 10 Blu Ray titles I wanted.

Then when Paramount made the move to HD-DVD only, I reconsidered.

I look at my current DVD collection and noticed that most of my titles were Warner Brothers, Universal and Paramount. Then I started to look at the current HD-DVD titles available and realized there were around 30 I wanted.

Then I saw the Best Buy sale where you buy the HD-A2 and get any 2 titles you want plus the 5 free by mail.

Well, I was sold.

To be honest, I was all about HD-DVD when it first came out. Even though it was going to be awhile before I would switch. Then I let these message boards slowly turn me to Blu Ray.

The thing that bugs me about Blu Ray is how lazy they've been. It seems like most of the things they've released is only day and date or action catalogue titles. No thanks.

HD-DVD has put out some great catalogue titles that I think might convert a casual HD looker.

Anyways, I'm going with HD-DVD!

bought my add on on day one for the 360 and have never looked back. King Kong exposed me to hd movies and then from there ive been a movie buyer again.

I tend to favor hd dvd because its what brought me to the game. And sony are arrogant apes.

Welcome aboard. I support both formats but tend to favor HD DVD. Universal, WB and Paramount have the better film libraries in my opinion. Enjoy!

I don't want to sound like a snob, but at the moment i think HD-DVD has a better selection of films that cater for serious movie lovers.
Yes, blu ray will have a lot of big commercial hits, but HD-DVD has some fantastic catalogue titles, Casino, Children of Men , Big Lebowski etc.
If you love classic movies, you can't go wrong with HD-DVD.

Yeah I find it funny just how many HD DVDs I've been buying lately. Imports too..... Just received Prestige (UK), ordered Mr. Bean's Holiday (UK - not even out at the theaters in America ) and am looking at getting Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (German) this December.

Default just took the red pill...

For me the decision to go hd-dvd was easy for two reasons. First off I am a loyal 360 owner so the prospect of a simple add-on seemed nice and second the titles available on HD DVD are IMO far superior to those on BRD.
My first love has been and probably always will be (in regards to art lol) movies. I am a casual gamer at best who enjoys a few select titles a great deal (the silent hill series, GTA series ect..) When I looked at the titles currently available (and coming soon) on each format it was blatantly clear that one library catered to a young gamer demographic (BRD) and the other catered to those amongst us who enjoy films.
As a side note I have to say that the ability to download/rent HD films from XBL gives the 360 a true edge in the entertainment bang for ur buck dept.

I was in the same boat as you, I was pretty pro Blu-ray before I I had anything HD. It was the price, the studio support, and by far the majority of my friends(who still don't have anything HD) who are Xbox 360 owners and will go HD DVD once they start getting into the HD scene.

A lot of the movies that I want to get are Universal, some Warner and a few Paramount and Dreamworks films.. so it worked out perfectly, and cheaper to start. Just seemed the more logical choice I guess.

Blu-ray has the big blockbusters but HD DVD has some damn good films that aren't anywhere near as popular as Pirates or Pixar, but they are still very good and look great in HD. For instance, I have Casino, Seabiscuit, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. All 3 of those were released by Universal and they look fantastic. In the case of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the HD DVD looks flawless for a 1998 film (looks like a 2007 release really), and the price of $25 at Best Buy is basically the same thing you'll pay for it on DVD. I got it as one of my 3 freebies from Best Buy (along with Batman Begins and The Departed) for buying my A3 player last week.
