- For the brand name "Toshiba"
- Cheaper than Blu-Ray (and does a better job) - Region Free - Universal Studios - VC-1 Encoding - Interactive menus even when you are watching the movie - PiP features - everything that Sony does usually fails, lol! - the Blu-Ray format is still incomplete while HD DVD was ready since day 1 etc.

I also like Toshiba products. I usally look for their products first as I have had very good luck with them. And I love alot of Universals movies. My X-A2 is an awesome player.

For me it's foremost:
- Regionfree - Cheaper solution (Xbox360 with add-on) - Nicer PR (Sony's we're the best! You will crawl before us!) |

HD DVD was the most inviting of the 2 formats. It was affordable and the titles to choose from were spectacular. September 1 will be my one year anniversary and I still love HD DVD. Since then I bought a BD player and went neutral.

Heh, I got the 360 because I wanted a secondary HD DVD player for the living room, and decided it might as well be a 360... I have a HD-A1 in the home theatre room.

I went HD DVD first because I had a high def TV for over a year and was talking to my wife and said we dont have anything to see what this TV can do(no HD cable here in Guam). So my wife said what the hell are you waiting for so I saw the cheapest solution which was to buy the add on for my 360. Then last month Crutchfield mispriced the A2 for $199.99 and took advantage of that. Sold my add on and then wife surprises me with a PS3 for my birthday. HD DVD was ready and it shows now that I can compare both.

Same here. If it weren't for the fact that I already owned a 360, I don't think I'd be in the HD market at all. The affordability of the 360 add-on was the biggest deciding factor for me, and even though I really wasn't looking forward to all the trappings of a format war, I can say that I won't regret the purchase at all, should things not turn out well for HD DVD.

This new section is a very nice desicion made on this forum.
Now people can come to the forum and explain why they made a decision on their purchases without being attacked. Great progress!! I am glad with this change. |

Because I like the titles better, and SONY sux alot of the times even if I want Pirates of the Carribean on HD DVD.
Why can't Sony just make titles for both BLU RAY and HD DVD?

I went HD DVD first simply because I had a 360, and was able to get the add-on for $160... I am now neutral...

I went HD mainly because of the Xbox 360 and the game Dead Rising. I had owned an Xbox 360 since it lauched, and Dead Rising was quickly becoming my favorite game for the system. The only problem was that I couldn't read any of the text in the game, because I was playing it on a standard def television.
One of my friends told me that I would actually be able to read the text in the game if I bought an HD TV. So, the next week I went out and bought a HD TV. Needless to say, I was downright floored by how amazing the GAMES looked on a HI DEF television. Therefore, I was kind of curious as to how good the movies would look. Once I heard the HD DVD add on for the 360 was going to be so cheap I snatched it up right away...and I have been more than impressed with the picture qualities on HD. I have since become neutral, after I bought a PS3. I needed to get a Blu-Ray player because I am a fan of Disney films. |

My Reasons where
Region Free Interactivity Price (had xbox addon first) And the biggest reason, HD-DVD is more consumer friendly.

I bought into HD DVD (HD-XF2) first and I'm supporting it as first choice although I also have PS3 as a Blu-ray player.
My reasons for supporting HD DVD first and foremost: - No region coding - No over the top DRM (BD+) - Great global content availability (I'm very active when it comes to importing and I prefer good quality movies over "latest blockbusters") - Studios that support HD DVD are more pro-consumer in many ways - More open format to smaller studios (no disc pressing monopoly etc.) - Much better availability of reasonably priced & good stand-alone players - HD DVD promotion group communicates publicly much nicer than BDA does - I strongly dislike the other-format-killing mentality of BDA and some of the BD supporters |
