Default HD DVD supporter finally going blu..

hey guys. i've been a full HD supporter until the recent news. i honestly don't think the format has a chance, so i've decided to try living on the blu side.

i've already picked up all three pirates movies, but looking at the special features on the majority of bluray titles, THEY SUCK!

do you think these studios will be re-releasing these bare bones titles down the line with all HD featurettes? or..should i just take ANOTHER plunge and spend more money and potentially have to rebuy these titles to get full HD discs?

or, for the majority of catalog titles, such as the devils rejects, american psycho, and jay and silent bob strike back, should i just buy them? do you guys think these discs will be rereleased?

help me out, i have no idea about any of this stuff.

Welcome to the dark side

The barebone titles you are mentioning are usually from the 2006 release slate or Fox/MGM titles. Most studios have picked up on the necessity of special features, this does not apply to Fox/MGM. They think that people will gladly purchase their barebone titles because of the audio/video experience and gladly pay $8 more than other studios want for their catalog titles?

How they could release 'Man On Fire' completely bareboned is beyond me, how they could charge $39 MSRP for it is even more out there?

Anyway, most titles have lots of special features so you shouldn't be to disappointed. And no, I don't think that you will se any new editions of the already released titles for a couple of years!

Unfortunately it's pretty much over for HD DVD.

Really? I have a lot of Blu-ray movies that have an abudance of special features. Pretty much every single Disney release from Lost to Cars and Ratatoullie are loaded, and along with Sony releases like the 2 disc set of Superbad. No one is forcing you to re-buy a title if it gets re-released with a few more bonus materials down the line, it will still be the same movie. Personally, unless I'm a major fan of the director or specific actors I don't even look at the bonus features.

Those three titles have poor PQ, and were release very early in Blu-ray's life. I would absolutely wait for a new release on them in the future.

I hope studios will be re-leasing their bare bones titles. I hope Warner does some kind of special edition of the first two Lethal Weapons.

I think the pS3 is the most popular player and you should be safe with it.

Fox/ MGM are this most expensive studios on eithr format. They charge you an arm and leg jsut for their old moives.

Congrats and have fun.

Which titles did you pick up that you think the special features suck? I have a lot of BD titles and most of the have a bunch of features that you could spend hours watching. If you mean the PiP feature then yeah Blu-ray doesn't have many titles with that feature.

I for one don't care for special features, as long as studios keep giving me great PQ and AQ, I'm a happy camper.

i was looking at the saw titles today. especially the first one. it seems kinda rushed out. its not even unrated, but the rest are? weird.

i sold a whole batch of my regular dvds that are available on blu, so i think i'll start going for everything. i don't mind spending another thirty dollars on american psycho should another be released. it's just too great to not own.

what do you guys recommend as the top five best?

and what do you guys think about the pixar shorts?
thanks alot.

I think for me besides Matrix collection was the catalog issue where you lack some of the big movies that will be in Blu-Ray... like Lord of the Rings trilogy and 1st Pirates of the Carribean movie (which looks awesome on 120hz LCD)
