Been a long time supporter of HD-DVD and have been looking into getting into Blu. I've always hated the playstation as a game machine so early on i elimated that. Then i was hesistant to get a standalone due to the new profile. But after hearing so many good things about the ps3 i ended up biting the bullet and picking up the 40gb. Not only that but i got one hell of a deal.
I went to FYE recently and traded a few movies in and saw that they were giving an extra 20% in trade ins. I also saw that they were carrying the ps3. So i went home and checked out my collection and crunched some numbers and decided to go for it. So i took in about a 18 old box sets and about dozen old movies. I signed up for their rewards card so i got an additional 10% on my trade in. Not only that but i also got 20% off anything i bought that day (excluding electronics). So here's what i ended up with all BD: Ps3 40gb w/Spider-man 3-new PS3 Remote-new Lost: Season 3-new Sunshine-New Simpsons Movie-new The rest i got used buy 3-get 1 free. Black Hawk Down Meet The Robinsons Monster House Surf's Up Casino Royale Close Encounters of the third kind Ice Age 2 Weeds Season 2 Total: 9 movies (10 if you include Spiderman) 2 TV seasons Remote PS3 40 GB Total out of pocket cost: $125 Can't beat that. |

I just got my PS3 40GB yesterday and it is hooked up and ready to go. I took at look at Casino Royale and it looked good. I'm bummed it doesn't have 5.1 analog outs, but the sound will do until I upgrade my receiver.
I can't believe it didn't come with component cables...sad. The wireless is nice though. The Nyko Blu Wave remote should come today (I'm just going to use the USB key w/ my Harmony 880). And I'll have 11 BR movies by the end of the week. I look forward to enjoying some of the BR exclusive titles that I really wanted (Kingdom of Heaven DC!!!). I knew I would go Purple eventually, but the WB news combined with the $100 off at Sony Style (and the lower priced 40GB model) deal caused me to get a BR player earlier than I expected.

Cool...I went purple as well.Sold some of my old movies and some HD DVD's at FYE w/the extra 20 % too.I have a Toshiba HDA20 and I picked up the Panasonic BD30 at BestBuy which also let me take 5 free movies !!!
I think the Tosh does a slightly better job at upconverting but the Panny is awesome...and runs really smooth and much faster(then again...it had better since it cost $500 smackers !!!!) |
