I actually planned on eventually going purple when I took the plunge and bought the HD DVD add-on for the 360 back in August. Both formats have their advantages, but I LOVE movies and after growing accustomed to watching high-def content I don't really like to watch standard DVDs anymore. They just look too blurry to me now.
![]() I would have been happy with HD DVD if every film I wanted was available for the format. There are great-looking and -sounding titles in both formats. But the movies... I was looking at the upcoming release schedule for some of my favourite films of 2007, and seeing that Superbad, 3:10 to Yuma, and No Country for Old Men would only be available on Blu-ray, I decided to not wait for a dual-format stand-alone (as I was) that was less than $400, but to just dive-in and get a stand-alone BD player. I bought the Sony S300, which I returned for a PS3, which despite not having a display is a great movie player (as is the 360 add-on). I have to give a slight edge to the PS3 for movies, and of course the 360 for games (so far). Watched Terminator 2 last night and the transfer is so good I could see flaws in the special effects (especially the process shots). I'm watching The Matrix now and it too looks amazing. I have a lot more HD DVD titles than BD so far, but it remains to be seen how long that's true. I mean, how could I go through a Christmas season without watching Die Hard (my favourite Christmas movie) on high-def? ![]()
