Default Add 3 More to the Blu Side!

My dad, my brother, and I all purchased stand-alone HD DVD players in the last month. I however have been on the red side since November of 2006, when the add-on came out. I remained pretty loyal but still objective, to the red side. I have purchased around 15 HD DVD movies (none of them freebies). But no matter how many movies I purchased or watched I would always find myself longing to see the titles I was missing out on. I had mentioned something to my dad last week about buying a Blu-ray player because I wanted to see Live Free or Die Hard, Pirates 1-3, the Disney/Pixar's. He kind of got this funny look on his face like he was surprised hearing that from me because he knew I was pretty "Red".

Well next thing I know, I was getting a call from him while he was at Best-Buy, asking me about HD audio formats and letting me know the Samsung BD-P1400 was on clearance for $299. He went ahead and picked one up, and I felt blu with envy. It wasn't 24 hours before I was at Best-Buy picking mine up with Cars. Well, 24 hours later, my brother went and picked up the same unit from CC. We are all in love.

Well after a few days experience with Blu-ray we are impressed, very impressed. My Dad says the sound is better and my Brother says the picture is better. I know its all relative to the player and movie so I was about ready to call it a toss up, that is until I watched Cars last night on Blu-ray. I was blown away. It was my first "jaw-on-the-floor" moment for nearly a year, or since I put my first HD DVD in of King Kong. I couldn't believe the picture and the LPCM Track coming through analog 5.1 was immense. It filled my room completely and shoved me right on the racetrack during that opening scene. WOW! I am sold. I know this is one of the exemplar movies on Blu-ray right now, but seriously, I couldn't believe it. The only animated movie I have to compare it to on HD DVD is Shrek 3, and I guess you wouldn't even call it that ...a comparison. Cars blows it away. My only hope is that there are more movies like this on Blu-ray. Fantastic!!

I think I have a favorite in this war now.

Not likely, maybe next year. The only 1.1 player out is still hovering around $400 to $500 online and even more in the store. Whats the point... I buy the 1.1 and then the 2.0 comes out. I bought a iMac G5 and 3 months later it was obsolete.

Boy you guys are a pleasant bunch. [sarcasm] Makes me glad I moved over to the blu-side. Good Lord!

I actually was going to buy a PS3 then found out it won't bitstream the advanced codecs (when I get my new receiver) and it doesn't have the anaolog outs(for my current receiver). I don't really game that much anyways. And I heard its just as noisy as my 360.

You should know that I haven't had any problems with my Samsung.

nice you all got the same player, but it is one of the more troublesome players you should have really just gotten a PS3 (the new 40gb is super quiet, no PS3 was louder than the 360) As for the movie selection, CARS? come on now have 10 blu-ray movies and dont even plan on buying any animated movies (something about grown men sitting down to watch a kids movie...nvm) if you want great picture and audio might I suggest Kingdom of Heaven, was 1st movie I bought on blu-ray

If you notice most people replying are red or purple with a reddish tint.

Enjoy your movies. That is what counts.

Always love how someone who said they will not buy a Blu-ray player criticizes someone else for not buying a better one... Why are you even searching in the Blu-ray forum anyway?...

Nice job calling out a sleazy trolling HD DVD fanboy.

As to the OP. Congrats on your purchase. Not a bad move with the Sammy considering it's 100 bucks less than the cheapest PS3. More cash for software!

And don't forget with the Samsung you also receive 8 free discs by mail (the normal 5 free offer, 2 more Warner titles, and Planet Earth Vol. 1)...

Hey I noticed that but I heard it wasn't available at Best-Buy, even though I didn't get 2 free at the register. I think I may try it with Samsung anyway, I couldn't find any info about Best-Buy not being included. All it says is that if you didn't receive 2 free in-store you are eligible.
