Default The Real Scoop

As an entry level newbie high def adopter this is the landscape as I put it through a common mans eyes.

Two years ago I started to get interested in the talk of the format war, I didn't know much but muted it out of my mind thinking, it's way off. With about 6 months to go before the XBOX 360 came out I sold my XBOX 1 and bought a PS2 (games I had to play on it), plus cheap used games available.

I expected to make a decision on XBOX 360 versus PS3 once they were both available based on the games & systems & needed in my living room. Continuing to play my PS2 working my way through Splinter Cell, Final Fantasy and other games I started to pay attention to the HD DVD vs Blu-ray buzz. On the surface I figured HD DVD was the way to go because it's cheaper and HD is HD right?

To continue, XBOX 360 came out and no real games of interest though Gears of War looked good but I didn't want to jump up and play it. (context I'm a 20 ear veteran gamer playing ever system from Atari to SNES, Sega Saturn to PS1).

About a year ago the PS3 comes out and it's expensive, and there was no way I would buy one at the price and I didn't HAVE to have one, especially on my 30" CRT. About this time I start researching HD DVD & Blu-ray specs and my opinion starts changing. Knowing a little big about ripping DVDs (I admit) I thought 30GB was somewhat short sighted, additionally audio specs were better for Blu-ray.

Fast forward to August, I buy my wife a 60" Samsung DLP and my Sony upscaling DVD isn't doing it for me. But the kicker, I got a free XBOX 360 with my Samsung TV... so.... I trade it in and pay $150 bones for a 60GB PS3. I rent some Blu-ray movies and my wife and I are blown away.

Since then I've converted my sister, cousin & coworkers to Blu-ray/PS3..... well not me exactly I just play it for them and let the system do the talking.
