Default Sony hater goes from HD DVD to Blu-ray.

I started off with the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on because it was a cheap, quick and dirty way to get into the HD movie scene. Also, at the time I had a strong distaste for Sony because of some of their previous practices of DRM. As time went on, it was becoming hard for me to ignore all the titles I wanted on Blu-ray that weren't availble on HD DVD, especially since all of my local stores seemed to stock much more titles on Blu-ray than HD DVD.

So, I ended up trading in my PS2 for a PS3, and started going format neutral. About two weeks in my HD DVD player bit the dust, and I returned it. I figured I'd wait for a good sale on a standalone player, but as time went on I realized I had no interest in going back to HD DVD. Most of the movies I would buy on the HD DVD format were comedies... a genre that really doesn't get the same benefit from HD as say an action movie. Not to mention a lot of my favorites had horrible transfers on HD DVD (40 Year Old Virgin, The Breakfast Club, Accepted.)

Now I'm very happy being only Blu-ray, and I really feel that it is the better product despite my feelings about Sony. I also feel much safer buying movies on Blu-ray because it has so much support, and is currently beating HD DVD in sales. I definitely do not want to invest in a format that has the potential to be dead in three years. I'm guessing sometime in 2008 Universal is going to go neutral, and the "war" will pretty much be over.

belated welcome, i guess.

the sooner it's over, the sooner the industry can work on mass market acceptance and the less chance there is of all this being a niche market.

I have both systems, but I think Blu Ray is the better one.

good to see someone put aside their hatred of Sony and looking at the product that is being offered.

Congrats on choosing the best format available. I was netural for about 4 months and decided that Blu-ray is just a better format. I now have 79 Blus and only 6 HD-DVDs and pretty soon those will be gone too!
