Default South Park has returned and it still sucks

The new episode premiered tonight and it was, as it was before the break, REALLY crappy and not funny.

I didn't even laugh once.

South Park used to be the best show on television but it is now one of the worst.

Any thoughts?

These things happen with comedy cartoons (and most long running shows in general). With The Simpsons, the wheels came off around Season 10.

As for South Park, I enjoyed it when it first came out, then grew bored with it after the movie. Every now and again I'll catch a random episode or some clips from episodes that'll get a chuckle out of me.

Same thing with Family Guy, just not consistently funny to me anymore. Then again, I may have just matured concerning Family Guy and South Park as I found them far more funny when they first came out and I was in middle school than I now do.

The Simpsons just dumbed itself down too much after 10 years. Randomly structured episode plots, easy cliched jokes, just a shame really. Although, it has saved me money, now that I am done buying the DVDs.

Honestly, I liked the show the first season, back when my parents got mad at me for watching it, but it was funny. Now its just gotten old, its over imo. Thats just coming from someone who never was a huge fan to begin with.

Pfft. The Mickey Mouse episode was fucking amazing. I haven't seen this new episode, but I'll assume it was probably a miss. They seem to be every other episode.

The 8th Season was/is amazing. Probably the best. The Whalziac Episode on Season 9 is also a hilarious one. The ending is one of the best ever.

Family Guy has pretty much always sucked. Though, I did enjoy the first three seasons as they tried to tell stories then.

I still think its good, the premiere was not one of the best though. South Park is without a doubt the ballsiest cartoon when it comes to subject matter, i would probably say its the most original as well. Whenever they infuse politics into the plots they make the best episodes, their pop culture based episodes are normally pretty good as well but they seem to be the ones that fail more often. Over rampant celebrity deaths is a pretty ballsy plot and singling out Michael Jackson is also pretty bad but it was kind of expected that South Park would make fun of all of that... I thought it had some laughs but it definitely was not one of the best but i have no doubt that i will be satisfied by the end of the season.

It was ok. The Chipotle joke was awesome:

Spoiler:
Dude, have you ever had Chipotle? It's really good..

But overall, it wasn't great. I think the problem is that they try to lampoon a current event every week, which doesn't always work. I wish they'd go back to a more structured plot line, but I have to assume they've run out of ideas.

Best part was the pageant. Honestly, why judge a little girl pageant if you aren't a pedo. *Note* I only judge teen pageants.

The Jonas Brothers episode was a classic... nothing else this season has been.

Come on, what about the Kanye-gay fish episode? Another classic.

It was funny, but forced. They ran that damned "fish dicks" thing into the ground... bad.

With that said, I did laugh at that one. I am not saying that I have not laughed at all, just that South Park is not even 1/10th as funny as it was before.

I'm still a big fan of South Park and agree with TwoNun that they are often hit and miss. I found many episodes hilarious during the last run and there were plenty that were just plain lame.

I dvr'd this episode and I'll check it out sometime this weekend.

For what it's worth, I still think Family Guy is hilarious as well (although it certainly has hits and misses as well - season premiere was a hit).

1301. The Ring (Original Airdate: 3/11/09)
Kenny puts on a purity ring. Kenny and his new girlfriend go to a Jonas Brothers’ Concert. Thinking it's his way into her heart (and other body parts), Kenny takes his new girlfriend to a Jonas Brothers Concert. His dream of taking their relationship to the next level is crushed when the Jonas Brothers give them purity rings.

IceNine's take: Very funny episode. I laughed a lot and thought that they might have regained their greatness.

1302. The Coon (Original Airdate: 3/18/09)
One young citizen takes it upon himself to maintain order during a time of despair in South Park. “The Coon” rises from the trash and takes his place as a lone vigilante who wipes out crime in the town of South Park. A rival superhero appears on the scene in the form of “Mysterion” and challenges the Coon’s place as a “symbol” for the town.

IceNine's take: I didn't laugh even once and decided that "The Ring" was a fluke.

1303. Margaritaville (Original Airdate: 3/25/09)
Everyone in South Park is busy pointing fingers when it comes to who is responsible for the state of the economy. Randy steps forward with a solution to fix the desperate financial state everyone finds themselves in. The town gets behind him and everyone starts to live a life that no longer depends on any economy at all. Meanwhile an unlikely savior makes the ultimate sacrifice to solve everyone’s problems.

IceNine's take: This episode confirmed my conclusion after watching "The Coon," as I did not laugh or even smile once during the entire episode.

1304. Eat, Pray, Queef (Original Airdate: 4/1/09)
The 4th Grade boys are the victims of an April Fool’s joke. Someone played an April Fools joke on the boys and it didn’t go over well. Butters is incapacitated, Cartman is furious and the rest of the boys are afraid someone might do it again.

IceNine's take: They realized that they had put out two shitty episodes and tried to bring it back with fart jokes. Even Terrence and Phillip failed to make South Park great again. There were some laughs, but nothing like the original Terrence and Phillip episode.

1305. Fishsticks (Original Airdate: 4/8/09)
Creative differences ruin friendships. Cartman decides to help Jimmy with his comedy routine. Everyone loves the new joke they come up with. The joke starts to take off and it even hits all the late night talk shows. The boys are thrilled with how popular it’s become until somebody tries to take all the credit.

IceNine's take: Pretty funny overall. They made fun of that total douche known as Kanye West, as well as Carlos Menecia. The problem was that it was a one-joke episode and it was just run into the ground. Still the second-best episode of the season.

1306. Pinewood Derby (Original Airdate: 4/15/09)
Building a Pinewood Derby car is the opportunity for some good old fashioned father-son bonding time. Randy is determined that Stan will win this year’s Pinewood Derby. He comes up with a plan that will assure Stan a first place trophy.

IceNine's take: Not funny at all. Standard for South Park for the last two seasons. There was not even one funny moment in the entire episode.

1307. Fatbeard (Original Airdate: 4/22/09)
Cartman plans to run away from home to live the life of a pirate. Butters and a small group of recruits join Cartman in his dream of living on Skull Island where they will frolic in crystal clear waterfalls and discover buried treasure. Cartman promises that paradise awaits if they can just get to Somalia.

IceNine's take: Completely lacking in comedy. I decided to never watch South Park again after this episode closed the first part of this season. I later decided to give them another chance... sadly.

1308. Dead Celebrities (Original Airdate 10/08/09)
The boys bring in professional ghost hunters to investigate evidence of paranormal activity in the Broflovski House. Powerful forces are tormenting Ike. He's freaked out and the stress could kill him. Kyle and the boys are doing everything they can to save him but the poltergeists won't leave Ike alone.

IceNine's take: Completely lacking. Sure, the child pagent judges jacking it was on point, as those guys probably are pedophiles... sure, they made fun of Mike Jackson, etc. The episode was still not funny and it was completely forced at all moments. The "Sixth Sense" bit is a bit late too.

My take.

1301. The Ring (Original Airdate: 3/11/09)

Hilarious

1302. The Coon (Original Airdate: 3/18/09)

Pretty weak.

1303. Margaritaville (Original Airdate: 3/25/09)

Okay episode. I love the method they had for determining what steps to take next.

1304. Eat, Pray, Queef (Original Airdate: 4/1/09)

Okay episode, don't recall much.

1305. Fishsticks (Original Airdate: 4/8/09)

Hilarious, loved every second of it.

1306. Pinewood Derby (Original Airdate: 4/15/09)

Pretty good. I can understand why some people wouldn't like it though.

1307. Fatbeard (Original Airdate: 4/22/09)

Hilarious. I loved the light saber part.

1308. Dead Celebrities (Original Airdate 10/08/09)

Haven't watched it yet.
